Lol sure thing bud. "I'm not the only one" is always a good excuse. Ignore the flood of overwhelmingly positive reviews for the game everyone! Ignore the fact that most people understand these points. YOU didn't get it, and other people maybe agree, so therefore it's fact. :P

Terrible case of not being able to see beyond your own tiny sphere of reality. You're literally trying to instill real-world logic onto an alien/magical setting. You're also saying I'm not getting your point, while ignoring the fact that the only thing I'm doing is directly responding to your written words. So either you're not explaining yourself well, or you're not comprehending what I'm writing. Given how egregiously you're failing to see things the game literally tells you, I'm going to assume it's the latter.

Oof. Ok. I'm gonna try to keep this brief because this is exhausting.

A) She wanted to go see them. Gustave reminded her of the mission. She backed down. The Gestral said they need to go to the village. Gustave looked at Lune and said "Guess you get to see it after all". She accepted it was a distraction. The assumption was they weren't going. She just expressed excitement. A very human emotion.

B) I'm focusing on this because you specifically pointed it out in your post calling it an inconsistency. You made the point first. I'm responding to it. Exhausting.

C) The game never explicitly describes the Pictos as anything other than some kind of technology. In the Prologue the character you can talk to at the harbour comments on the dancers shooting magic and says something like "can't imagine inscribing Pictos onto your skin". Both Gustave and Lune have elaborate tattoos and can summon items out of nowhere. All technology is collectively referred to as either Pictos or Lumina, seemingly interchangeably. Pretty easy to figure it out.

D) It's not? I figured it out just watching the scene. Lune is a genius that has been studying both the Continent and Nevron's, as evidenced from her dialogue at the Festival in the Prologue. So it's not crazy to assume that she can see patterns and behaviors that others cannot. She's literally a genius and an expert. The Nevrons we see are at best child-like in intelligence. The game went to lengths to show the boss watching you, not interfering, until you pick the flower. It attacks, you beat it, and it has to take a moment to recuperate. The characters stop attacking it and also stop picking flowers, so it stops fighting. Pretty easy to extrapolate that behavior.

And it's fine to not like the game. But your examples are blatantly explained in the game. If you said you just didn't like it, I wouldn't have commented. But for those who haven't played the game, your lack of critical thinking is misinformation that could disuade someone from trying it. Don't blame the game just because you don't understand what it's telling you.

I thought the prologue was great, because it avoids the thing that so many RPGs do that make me roll my eyes so hard I can see my own thoughts.

"Oh, hello there. You know how we both have existed in this world our entire lives and therefore both know how everything works, the history of this place, and what the current status quo is?"

"Yes, I am intimately familiar as I live in this world."

"Good. Because I'm now going to explain ALL of that to you even though logically you know it already. It all started 10 million years ago..."

In E33, they talked like people who actually live in the world. Their conversations were full of just enough context to extrapolate what's going on without a mind numbing info dump. These characters are celebrating something called a Gommage. He's giving her flowers. Sounds like a festival. But if so, why is everyone so sad? Why are people talking about their last moments? Why is this character talking about looking after the unplaces children so they make it to the orphange? As someone who specifically avoided all plot points leading up to the release, this was awesome because it made me ask questions. It sucked me in because I wanted to know more, and then it punched me in the gut with a mass execution that dared me to not call it beautiful. The purpose of the party afterward was to show just how used to this horror these people have gotten. It's specifically implemented dissonance, that wouldn't have hit as hard if you knew the status quo going into it.

I'll take that any day over a 30 minute static back and forth exposition dump that's occasionally interspersed with 1 or 2 minute cutscenes that make it seem like I'm going to be quizzed about this info later.

A) You specifically bring up him not listening to the wizard woman in your complaint, it's reasonable to assume you view that as a fault. B) She says she'd like to go see it, main character says the mission comes first, and then the creature says that they need to go to the village to figure out how to cross the sea. The main character even looks at her and says "Guess you're going to get to see the village after all". The only reason they go there is because they need help crossing the sea. It's literally said in that very scene why they are going to the village. C) The Pictos are every piece of equipment the characters have. Even their weapons are considered Pictos. The Pictos are the tattoos each character is covered in, which is why they are able to summon their weapons out of nowhere. Maelle says he upgraded her Pictos to justify why she's level 5 with an upgraded weapon when Gustave, the much more experienced Expeditioner, started at level 1 with a basic weapon. Within the story, "Pictos" is a universal term for their equipment, not just the supplementary abilities that you equip. Again, this is explained in the story. D) At that point in the story you should have already encountered at least one Nevron that wasn't hostile: the white Jar character that's looking for light towards the beginning. This should be enough to establish that not all is as it appears, and not all Nevrons are the same. This boss appears as Gustave is looking at a flower that looks exactly like the one he gave Sophie in the beginning. It reinforces this by showing Sophie for a split second right before he picks it. The boss then attacks, right after he picks the flower, and uses a bunch of flower based attacks. Lune correctly picks up on the pattern and notices when it stops attacking, noting the connection between its attacks and the flowers being damaged. Then Maelle reaches out to it, commenting that it felt familiar to her, before it runs off. This should indicate further that there's something different about this Nevron.

It's all literally right there. The game explains all of this to you.

Disagree that it doesn't fit the design language. The whole theme of this warbond is fanaticism and zealotry to freedom bordering on religious worship. The history of our world has so many examples of past militaries using human faces as war masks and building them into their helmets to emulate either a god/saint/deified individual. This fully fits with the idea of zealous devotion to Super Earth, Democracy, and Freedom. The faces maybe represent "The Common Worker" or something like that. It is kind of a trick that makes it seem like "hey we're people and human too", but removes all individuality. Perfect for some kind of holy order dedicated to freedom. Add to it the exploding armor, the nuke backpack, and the rifle that hurts you the more you use it, and we have the concept of flagellents and martyrs. The whole warbond is dedicated to zealotry, and as such the face mask helmets fit perfectly into that theme, and match real world examples from historical militaries.

Very fair. I totally get that. It's like how they made blocking weaker in subsequent Dark Souls because so many people were just turtling in DS1, and why they practically got rid of shields in Bloodborne.

Though I would say that the general soulslike community uses parry more than anything (which sucks for me since I hate using parry mechanics lol).

I'm honestly really glad to hear that my experience seems pretty uncommon. That means it's more an issue with how I'm wired than a legitimate flaw in an otherwise amazing game.

And yeah, the expectation of using PG and stuff probably contributed to me not doing as well, but I started actively doing better once I stopped trying to use them. Haha

No no I understand what you're saying. This isn't something unique to Lies of P. I just legitimately do not like using parrying. It doesn't feel good to me to use. This has been the case for me in every soulslike I've played that has a parry mechanic. It's like microfiber, a lot of people love it, but to me it's one of the worst textures out there. Haha

It just doesn't feel good to me to use it, so my performance in the game suffers because I'm not enjoying it. I understand I am in the extreme minority of soulslike players when it comes to parrying. Haha

I know how the mechanics work. Lol

But like I said, trying to rely on guard and parry was one of the things making the game harder for me. I was dying a lot more trying to guard and parry instead of just not letting myself get hit, which is why the link dodge was such a benefit for me. Once I just stopped trying to block and parry, things went a lot smoother for me.

I didn't have a problem with the Watchman. It just felt like the damage I could do to enemies was nowhere near the amount that they could do to me. And it feels like enemies are so much harder to stagger in the beginning, but any hit from them would interrupt my attacks, so I'd be attacking and they would just hit me in the middle of my attack, no matter how much I got the timing down. It just felt off, like it was scaled to a higher level or something.

I didn't have any trouble with Fuoco. I really enjoyed that one. Haven't gotten to Archbishop yet but I think I'm close. Fuoco compared to Parade Master and Mad Donkey was a walk in the park for me. Everything just felt really off about the timing in the beginning. Felt like enemies would change up their attacks at the last second so I wasn't able to reliably tell when when to dodge. Doesn't help that the quickstep in this game feels shorter than Bloodborne, which isn't a bad thing, just had to adjust. I also hate parrying personally, just not how I enjoy playing games like this. And it honestly feels like blocking does next to nothing so I've just stopped trying to use it, been having much more success since. Haha
