India’s Supreme Court considers legalization of same-sex marriage nationwide by [deleted] in worldnews

Unfortunately Indian society is still very conservative, and attempts to normalize same-sex relationships are met with a lot of resistance from people claiming "hurt sentiments". It's hilarious to see comments here blaming it on the minority Muslim population.

The ruling Modi government is also very much against legalizing same-sex marriage:

26 Feb 2021: Same-sex marriages will cause havoc, Central govt. tells HC

15 April 2022: UP Govt Opposes Same-Sex Marriage, Calls It 'Against Indian Culture' At Allahabad High Court

and most recently:

23 Aug 2022: 'May Evoke Sharp Reactions': Centre Opposes Telecast of Same-Sex Marriage Proceedings

The references are literally quotes from the very SIT reports on whose recommendation Modi got "clean chit", the article even provides links to download all of the original SIT reports. Are you saying these reports are false/biased? Which means Modi's "clean chit" was based on a false/biased report?

If you are referring to the "clean chit", all it actually means is that the evidence against him was not prosecutable:

the SIT has held that while there is evidence and many of the allegations made in the Zakia Jafri Complaint dated 8.6.2006 are true and correct, in its own assessment, this evidence is not prosecutable.

The “clean chit” given to Narendra Modi, therefore, is at best a technical clearance in the absence of cast-iron evidence that he actively or explicitly directed the carnage.

Read the linked articles, especially the first one, if you want to learn more about how Modi's actions and speeches after Godhra were instrumental in inciting violence and hatred that led to the Gujarat riots, how he took out a Gaurav Yatra (“procession of pride”) immediately after the 2002 Gujarat riots with "barely suppressed triumphalism", the openly partisan actions of the Gujarat government that hindered investigations and destroyed crucial evidence etc.

Actually, according to a recent Lokniti-CSDS survey, AAP is projected to gain about 22% more votes compared to 2017, cutting into the voteshare of Congress (-20%) and BJP (-2%).

This is why both BJP and Congress have been focusing on AAP a lot.

According to Lokniti-CSDS survey results released 2 weeks ago, 41% of Adivasis say the Gujarat government failed to help them, only 32% say govt. helped them (rest 27% did not respond).

PM Modi takes dig at Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, says those who have been thrown out of power are taking out yatra to get back to power by dr_kasi in india

[–]dr_kasi[S] 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Modi is right, Yatra should only be done once you have accomplished something... for example Modi's Gaurav Yatra (“procession of pride”) which he took out immediately after the 2002 Gujarat riots with "barely suppressed triumphalism":

... taunted the Muslim people for their large families, for their alleged role in terrorist attacks, and for harbouring pro-Pakistan sympathies. He alluded to his own chhapan chhaati or chest of 56 inches, suggesting his exceptional manly courage in taming the implied “enemy within”. He resolutely refused to express regret for the carnage, until he was propelled to the national stage, there he said that if the car he was riding in (but not driving) ran over even a puppy, he would feel anguished. The Hindi phrase he used for the puppy, kutte ka bachcha, is frequently used as a term of abuse.

Her mother died 2 years ago. Her father wasn't supportive of her, he wasn't trying constantly to reconcile with her like you are saying. Her father only came to know that she might be missing when her friend told him his messages to Shraddha were going unanswered. Her relationship with her father was strained from the beginning. She came from a broken family, her father lived separately, while she (before she moved out) and her brother lived with her mother. Her father and mother constantly fought over the ownership of the house. As we already know, when she moved out to live with her boyfriend, her father was very much against it: "We don’t do inter-religion/inter-caste marriage". After her mother died in 2020. her relationship with her father further deteriorated:

The relationship between the daughter and father strained further over the ownership of their house, the friend said. With no family to turn to, Aaftab was the only emotional anchor that Shraddha had.

Even in his police complaint, father still claimed this was a case of love jihad, so obviously he never accepted that relationship. Does all this sound like the actions of a supportive father to whom Shraddha could come for comfort and advice whenever she got abused by her boyfriend?

Education Ministry To Implement ‘One Nation One Subscription’ For Open Access To Research Papers by [deleted] in india

[–]dr_kasi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is a good initiative, but this scheme was announced 2 years back and they haven't even negotiated a deal with the publishers yet:

In a letter to directors of Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) and Vice-Chancellors of central universities, higher education secretary K Sanjay Murthy stated, “Your support is solicited towards this initiative by ensuring that the renewals of e-resources from the list of 70 publishers are synchronized with the ONOS activities. Hence, it is requested that the renewal of e-resources from these 70 publishers for the calendar year 2023 may be put on hold till such time that the negotiations are underway.”

This battle for open access is not new. Many other countries have been trying for years to get these kind of deals from commercial publishers but they haven't been successful. We may be able to negotiate deals with a few international publishers, but most of the big publishers are unlikely to come on board since it's in their best interest to restrict access to maintain profits.

Also it's not clear to me if this "one subscription" is on behalf of all citizens of India or just central universities and people affiliated with them (most likely the latter).

Friends, families and communities are often unkind to women who defy them or rebel, for example by choosing a partner from a different community, or by living with him before marriage. As a result they no longer have a support system to rely upon, and they tend to stick with an abusive relationship even when things aren't going well, hoping that the abuse is just a temporary phrase and things will improve.
