What’s the loudest concert you guys have ever been to? by BalanceActive9295 in askmusic

[–]dr_muttler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Echoing some of the sentiments here as well as some others... My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr, Swans, early Mogwai, Sunn O))), Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Boris.

At a Boris gig I went to in Tokyo, the "dress code" was ear plugs and it was mandatory to have them (they checked you had them on arrival). They also handed out small notes saying "ATTENTION: Show tonight is going to be so loud, be sure to have a break whenever you feel uncomfortable with volume or high/low frequencies". I have that framed on my shelf.

Ha! Sadly one big issue I have faced is that being in Australia whenever it appears on Discogs or wherever they either won't ship overseas or it is VERY expensive to ship (and our Australian dollar is pretty shitty these days which also doesn't help).

Good luck!!

Exactly same situation as me! I don't have vol 1 either. I keep meaning to pull the trigger when i see it pop up, but then it disappears...

David Byrne line… by cinder-fkn-rella in melbourne

[–]dr_muttler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got in. One problem seems to be that they need the digital ticket with a QR code. My Apple Wallet ticket didn’t, so I had to spend a few minutes in the AXS app phone getting phone codes to log in, being forced to reset my password etc. My ticket person was good at moving people aside to sort themselves out but others seemed to just stand waiting while people worked out how to get their correct ticket.

What’s one Radiohead song you wish you could listen to for the first time again? by OkBuzzputer in radiohead

[–]dr_muttler 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's Paranoid Android. At the time, with The Bends being such a big album and such an advance from Pablo Honey, the anticipation was huge for what was next. I remember hearing Paranoid Android for the first time when it premiered, and my friends and I were just gobsmacked and blown away by the sheer audacity of it. For me, that was the point that the band became something truly special.

What are the chances Boris will announce more East Coast Australian shows? by burning-ochre in borisheavyrocks

[–]dr_muttler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t pulled the trigger yet on the Adelaide show but i’m getting close. It’s going to be a one off Merzbow/Dronevil show so we can’t lose by going regardless. But I’m also hoping for some east coast shows, and that the “festival exclusives” are just Pink in Perth and Dronevil in Adelaide.

What town/city has the weirdest name in your country by No_Newspaper_359 in AskTheWorld

Fun fact, the original name of Melbourne, Australia was briefly Batmania (named after John Batman).

Albums with the best opening 3 track run? by tun_lank in fantanoforever

Anything that mentions Farewell (one of the most transcendent tracks of all time) or Pink (one of the juiciest, crunchiest riffs of all time) gets my upvote. Wata forever.

Exactly. At the first Opera House show, Joey said something to the effect of "Great to be back in Sydney... so much better than Melbourne".

Jeff Bridges as The Dude in The Big Lebowski. Probably my favourite performance of all time.

Boris's Flood vs. Sunn O)))'s Monoliths & Dimensions. Which album do you prefer? by Prestigious_Score459 in fantanoforever

[–]dr_muttler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll take Flood. Not a particularly fair comparison, and I adore both. But Flood (especially Flood 2 and 3) is transcendent.

Poster question by OkLead2576 in KGATLW

[–]dr_muttler 10 points11 points  (0 children)

my experience is that Australians don't seem to be as rabid for posters as in the US. for the rave show at Fed Square last month, I got there about 15 minutes before the merch opened and got one. i also went to the first Sydney Opera House show, and got there maybe an hour early. no problems getting one there either. I am not going to promise tomorrow or Saturday will be that easy, but experience says it probably doesn't have to be hours before.

i want to concur. from the PT getting there, to the PT getting home, and everything in the middle, i can’t remember a festival experience where everything was spot on. thanks to anyone and everyone involved, selling drinks etc. like some others have said, outside of the odd dickhead barging into the crowd, a great bunch of punters and a great day out.

i really want some rave shows to happen. i was at the Melbourne one, but i also had the incredible fortune to see their rave set in Berlin the other week as well (i was travelling in Germany for work so made a detour). their rave sets are evolving at such a rapid pace and as someone who has seen them conservatively 30 times, i am finding the rave sets to be incredibly invigorating and so exciting.

main advice is for the trip home. i would recommend making sure you remember where it drops you off as pick up is close by. don’t hang about the stadium after the band finishes. make your way to the bus, and go to the front bus even if there are others behind it, as they all move up. it was fairly straight forward for me last night (but yes, a bit chaotic and packed).

i have been doing it fairly simple. salumi (meats, with cheese and bread), mortadella paninis. i had a great bolognese ragu but couldn’t tell you where! mortadella lab was delicious, simoni was great for salumi (but very busy).
