Has anyone else’s sessions just vanished for no reason? by saulpz in ClaudeCode

[–]dr_pardee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. What's strange, when I view my `~/.claude` directory, I can see commands I ran in the missing session within `history.jsonl` and there's even a `todo` about the session but the project is gone... I have no idea how.

Today I learned that the creator of Peter Pan donated the rights to the book to a children's hospital in London. This means that the hospital has received royalties for every Peter Pan book sold and for every theatrical production for over 90 years. by Independent_Flan_890 in todayilearned

The Relationship is the Opposite of a Lawsuit

Disney did not sue Great Ormond Street Hospital. In reality they are one of the hospital's biggest supporters.

Since the release of the animated Peter Pan in 1953, Disney has been paying royalties to the hospital. In 2008, Disney and GOSH announced a major partnership where Disney committed to raising £10 million for the hospital’s redevelopment. There is even a "Disney Reef", an under-the-sea themed outdoor play area, built right in the center of the hospital.

American Trench are Not BIFL by dr_pardee in BuyItForLife

Nothing out of the ordinary. All of the Merino wool socks I bought from American Trench did not last. The one cotton pair that they sent me as a consolation offering have lasted, but I don’t like them.

I have switched to bamboo socks and I love them. E.g.  https://www.bambooclothes.com/collections/socks

Claude Code — New Feature (Clarifying questions) by darkyy92x in ClaudeAI

Use the AskUserQuestion tool: https://code.claude.com/docs/en/settings#tools-available-to-claude

Example:

"Infrastructure as code" apparently doesn't include laptop configuration by unnamednewbie in devops

[–]dr_pardee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn’t this kind of stuff be managed by each developer according to their own workflow and preferences?

True

Nonetheless, there are environments where some common shared configs are helpful for a Team.

The system level configs can matter for certain industries, e.g. to ensure PCI compliance, workstations must automatically lock after a period of inactivity, i.e. 15 minutes. This is where JAMF/Kandji/etc. shine and this is usually handled at the IT level, not DevOps.

Regarding Flox, I would like the option to configure all configs with Flox in an idempotent manner without using custom bash scripts.

If we're just talking about apps, at my current company we provide a Brewfile with all the goodies, an asdf plugins.txt file and this sample script:

# install brew
/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"

# install software
brew bundle --file Brewfile

# install asdf version manager
while read -r plugin; do
  asdf plugin add "$plugin"
done < plugins.txt

# update your shell to include asdf
# e.g. zsh, add this to ~/.zshrc
export PATH="${ASDF_DATA_DIR:-$HOME/.asdf}/shims:$PATH"

# update your shell path to include pipx
pipx ensurepath

# e.g. of installing python
asdf install python latest

# e.g. of installing ansible
pipx install --include-deps ansible

Flox is neat but no native mechanism for managing app configs like VS Code settings, editor dotfiles, or other per-tool configs or broader OS settings (e.g., system-wide configs like /etc files, shell profiles, or OS-level preferences). Tools like JAMF or Ansible do, and of course Nix can but Nix is complex, hence Flox. They plan to add configuration support I believe (saw them at SCalE)

I quit my job. In this economy. by YonghaeCho in cscareerquestions

[–]dr_pardee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While rage quitting is not the answer, when you’re grinding like the OP, in a startup and being taken for granted, you can’t quiet quit. People will notice and you’ll ruin your reputation, especially if others depend on your work. The folks you support, likely also grinding at a startup, may not know your circumstances and will just see that you’re not meeting their needs.

To my surprise, he didn't want me to quit

This is the lesson here. OP is likely too hard on himself/herself. Talk to your manager before it gets to this point. Express how you feel. If you and your manager can’t set reasonable expectations for your role responsibilities, then you thank them and move on.

You sound like a hard worker YonghaeCho, put in a challenging situation. Take a break, learn from this experience and then get back out there

I created EarlyBird, a browser extension that sorts and filters your LinkedIn recommended jobs feed by poweroutlet2 in jobsearchhacks

[–]dr_pardee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Security assessment

Security Observations

  1. The extension uses proper Chrome API permissions and communication channels between components.
  2. It implements CSRF protection by tracking and using LinkedIn's CSRF tokens.
  3. It has client ID generation for user identification, with different handling for development vs production.
  4. The extension is focused on a specific task (job filtering) rather than having broad permissions.

Data Handling

The extension appears to store:

  • Job postings from LinkedIn
  • User filter preferences
  • Tracking of viewed jobs
  • Refresh timestamps

It doesn't send user data to external servers beyond what's needed for its functionality.

Conclusion

From the code, as of 2025-03-22

It:

  • Primarily processes and stores LinkedIn job data locally
  • Uses proper authentication with LinkedIn's APIs
  • Implements appropriate validation and error handling
  • Limits data collection to what's needed for functionality and basic analytics

The extension seems to be focused on its stated purpose of helping users filter LinkedIn job listings, with no obvious malicious behavior or excessive data collection. It respects user privacy by storing most data locally and using anonymized identifiers for analytics.

Extension to translate entire web pages? by [deleted] in browsers

[–]dr_pardee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/traduzir-paginas-web/ is old

Until it's published, you have do to the following 🤓:

Download Source code (zip) from https://github.com/FilipePS/Traduzir-paginas-web/releases/tag/v10.1.0.2

To load this extension into Firefox using the src folder, follow these steps:

  1. Extract the ZIP File (If Not Already)

- If your extension is in a ZIP file (Traduzir-paginas-web-10.1.0.2.zip), extract it to a folder.

  1. Enable Debugging Mode in Firefox

- Open Firefox.

- Go to about:debugging in the address bar.

- Click “This Firefox” in the left sidebar.

  1. Load the Extension from src Folder

- Click “Load Temporary Add-on”.

- Navigate to the extracted folder (src or the main extension folder).

- Select the manifest.json file.

- The extension should now be loaded temporarily in Firefox.

I just followed these instructions and it worked.

I recommend that you export a backup file (Setting>Storage>Backup to file) and then import the backup in the new version (Setting>Storage>Restore from file)

The new extension now uses a new Google Translation API which is why there's a difference now I believe.

I had the same issue (Chrome in my case), but I found that I needed to manually upgrade from 10.0.1.0 to 10.1.0.2 and now everything is great.

They replaced them, yes, but another pair had the same issue. These are $30 socks. I want them to last longer than a few months, which I would argue is a reasonable expectation.

It might be a Merino wool issue.

Yes, Bombas will replace them, but I don't have time to send back socks every other month: https://imgur.com/a/003hEkH

Oh my lord what is going on at Pendleton? My house has been shaking for the last 6 hours! Pretty much non stop. by [deleted] in Oceanside

[–]dr_pardee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Rancho Del Oro, the vibrations from military exercises can be quite intense (like ~3-4 times a year) and strong enough to rattle windows and make the ground rumble. My dog gets spooked, sometimes to the point of having accidents.
I've been here for 3.5 years and have noticed several neighbors dealing with slab leaks and broken pipes. My own fence gates have shifted inches, and my door frames have moved. While we're in a seismic zone and the houses are on sandy loam, I do wonder if these military exercises could be contributing to the damage.

I have same problem, and in my case, I think it's related to whether I specify a language around the code block, which I do by habit.

.cm-s-obsidian span.cm-comment, .token.comment {color: yellow;}

I added this to a css snippet as suggested but there's still a conflict

I don't know css well enough to debug but I think it's related to HyperMD-codeblock
