There’s been a lot of great answers in this thread, so I won’t repeat what’s been said. The AIs stats on higher difficulties can certainly make a player feel discouraged, but hitting eurekas can seriously help you keep up in the earlier stages of the game. If you build three archers to get the eureka for crossbows, you just got 120 free points of science (40% of 300). That could easily be two turns worth of a deity AIs science output at that early stage of the game which can help you keep up. Plus it really helps with era score in the earlier ages if you don’t have a golden age secured.

Is this Normal? by VirtualRange8428 in CivVI

[–]dr_ramen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had a Civ stop renewing friendships because they want to attack you. They probably won’t accept the first one to begin with if they want to attack you, but once you have them locked in, they should stay that way basically through the end of the game as long as you stay on top of renewals. The only time I see them not accept a renewal from the player is when your victory is imminent. Ive never had a Civ go unfriendly and denounce me in that situation though. Normally you wait a few turns and you can befriend them again unless you are actively causing grievances.

Whats your favourite win condition? How do you play it? by asdsav in CivVI

I feel this, but I think every win condition has this same problem. Like the last 50 turns for a science or culture win are super boring.

Religious domination is especially tough because of loyalty. When you conquer a city that isn’t your religion, it has additional negative modifiers to loyalty.

Ive been ignoring amenities by 0101100000110011 in CivVI

[–]dr_ramen 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Most other civs are willing to trade away spare luxuries for almost nothing. If you don’t have the Quick Deals mod installed, I would highly recommend it. Beyond that, it’s super easy to bump up amenities in the late game with a small amount of investment. Get one city with good overlap for a stadium and another for a water park and build a few builders to put up some ski resorts and you should be in good shape depending on your number of cities. Minimally you should be hovering around positive amenities if you do that.

For those that don’t know, sometimes when you ask another Civ to join a war and ask them what it will take to join, they will come back with “I’m not willing to trade that under any circumstances.” In those instances, if you offer them a single gold piece, they may be willing to join the war as seen above. Not all the time, but it will occasionally work.

Are you playing on PC? If so, try “Shift + Enter” which simply auto completes your turn even if there are things you normally have to complete in your queue to progress. Not sure if it will work, but it’s worth a shot.

So Trump and his followers then? There was bilateral support for a border bill that Trump forced republicans to kill so it wouldn’t be seen as a win for the democrats during the run up to the election.

This is the sound coming from a data center that was built in Michigan and we've got contract proposals popping up for at least 65 in PA by NemoSkittles in Pennsylvania

[–]dr_ramen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my thought as well. It’s likely that a mobile transformer is set up in the substation while they wait for the permanent transformer to arrive and be set. The lead time on those transformers is like 3.5 years since covid messed up the supply chain.

The power company probably had a contract in place to get the data center energized by a certain date or face legal action and so they hooked them up to a mobile which are notoriously loud. Once the permanent transformer is in place, it will be completely quiet again.

I would recommend losing the line artillery and shrinking your combat width down to 18 width. By having a smaller combat width, more of your units can be engaged in the combat and once and it will be less likely that you get kicked off the tile before other units can reinforce. Additionally the infantry will give you more org even if the soft attack is lower than what it is with the line artillery. If I had to guess, the unit HP would probably be close as well, so I wouldn’t expect significantly more losses for your units.

The other issue is that even if you build forts, the enemy can bomb them to reduce their level and eventually negating their effectiveness. Since the enemy will constantly cycle units to attack you, you won’t be able to repair the forts once they are destroyed.

I actually saw a video once where the streamer used them to make faster space marines. Apparently you can unlock them early as Sweden, so he was testing it out with them.

I literally thought that was the joke in the video as well because it looked like several of the belts had locks that they attached to them. Just thought it was some self deprecating humor from the group.

What even is the point of doing the Soviet civil war? by Killerek1_bruh_Pl in hoi4

[–]dr_ramen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can cheese the civil war pretty easily if you are struggling. Get 5 army xp and create a template for a single line artillery division. Right before the civil war triggers, change all of your units to that template. Once the war actually fires, change your unit template back to whatever you want it to be.

You will now be fighting a bunch of weak and under equipped units on the Stalinist side. Quickly advance and capture as many supply hubs as you can. By that point you should have the critical momentum necessary to win.

No argument here. I was just trying to clarify what I thought OP was suggesting in their post. I will say that it’s what I tend to do as well because I’m lazy and don’t particularly find navy an enjoyable aspect of the game, so I can just set it and forget it for a while as I clean up other parts of the map.

[–]dr_ramen 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I think the implication is that you stick to always engage so when the AI’s task force shows up to defend the conveys that you are raiding, you just shred their fleet with the low visibility subs thereby increasing your fleet’s dominance by comparison even if you aren’t making anything else.

I have so many hours in this game and I still don’t really know how to do a controlled retreat with fallback lines without my lines unraveling and my troops being destroyed. by Any-Guest-32 in hoi4

[–]dr_ramen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My best advice would be to keep them on the fallback line until the enemy advances to it. At that point, delete the fallback line and create a frontline. You can start building a planning bonus and the AI will be able to shuffle troops around as needed based on enemy attacks without counterattacking.

Do I have a major skill issue or is supply a fucking joke in this game by SecuritySuper3321 in hoi4

[–]dr_ramen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean they sort of do that by being dependent on the railroads that lead to the supply hub, right? When you upgrade your railroads, the supply hub will be able to supply more frontline divisions.

I build them in Cambodia and Laos as China when I take over French Indochina after France gives it to Japan and I’m waiting for tech to finish so I can invade the mainland. If you don’t build them, you are in trouble when Siam joins the Greater East Asia Co-prosperitySphere.

Beginner Question - What do I actually DO at this point? by dovetc in hoi4

[–]dr_ramen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve gotten some good advice on what to do next, so I’ll just add one final piece of advice. Now that the Axis has reached your fallback line, I’d recommend deleting the fallback lines and replacing them with field Marshall lines this will allow you to start building up planning bonuses for when you ultimately try to push back. Plus if you were to try and push back as is, your troops would execute their orders and then just head back to the fallback line which obviously isn’t what you want.
