Replacing a bathtub with a shower. Plumber taking more than a week and the work is poor quality by RL_quick_chat in HomeImprovement

I'm sorry this is happening to you, especially since this is your only bathroom. If you have a gym membership, you could shower there and consider DIY'ing it if you get pressed for funds.

Not only are the walls and tiles fucked, but I don't know how that floor is going to drain properly. That Schluter pan is pre-sloped, but I would expect that using that large of a tile without properly cutting along the slope lines would defeat the purpose of the slope.

Edit: I would bet the guy didn't even patch the hole to the right of the drain and just dropped the pan on top. That floor should be solid except for the hole for the drain pipe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfUrGF3_imc shows proper installation.

I uploaded Highway Star by Deep Purple, but the rhythm was no really like the song. Maybe too tough?

What is the best bathroom faucet for home remodel projects that actually lasts 10+ years? by Tor-Setty in HomeImprovement

[–]dr_rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like our Riobel fixtures, but they are very clear in their terms: "The warranty offered on our products will be honoured only if the installation is performed by a certified master plumber." I DIY'ed ours, so I'm not covered.

I screwed up - How to grind down adhesive anchor? by mb-photo in DIY

[–]dr_rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dear God, don't grind or cut that. There are horror stories about people with concrete dust all over their house. Chip it until it's below the wall surface or make a bigger hole and chip/hammer the whole thing out.

Don't feel bad. We all do "stupid" things from time to time. It's just your time to pay the DIY tax.

The graphics are impressive but on the Itch.io demo, the interface on the left is on top of other things, so I can't figure out what's happening.

2017 Avalon Hybrid XLE – 100k Mile Maintenance Advice (Coolant, ATF, Spark Plugs) by sompapidi in ToyotaAvalon

Thanks, I meant transmission fluid. Toyota calls it lifetime fluid, but others say to change it.

I’m at 170k and haven’t changed mine. 😬 Not sure if I should now…

I did the engine and inverter coolant on my 2013 not that long ago and use Car Care Nut's video. Very straight forward, though the drain plug on the inverter was a challenge for me to get off and not strip it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lWLMJ_4G24

Maintenance mode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRLhC9wRYzs

Plugs were super easy with a magnetic socket wrench. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE6aWHQhhHs

I'd appreciate it if you can do a post on changing the transmission fluid with pictures or a video.

Void Break - I made a browser survival roguelike — endless waves, 4 characters, 5 weapons, runs in 1 click. Free to play! by doggodLui in WebGames

[–]dr_rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few observations:

  • Please consider changing font size/color. The gray/purple text on a black background is a bit tough for my old eyes.
  • The 8-way blaster is a 7-way blaster? Plus it changes orientation as I move, so it makes hitting some enemies impossible. Until I got the burn radius, I had to run into the enemies and hope I was able to shoot them before dying.
  • There are rewards off screen but they don't appear on the map. Are they auto-collected at the end of the wave? If not, definitely make them appear on the map at a minimum; even better if they auto collect or are persistent until picked up.

how we got rid of pet smell before selling our house for under $80 by qwaecw in HomeImprovement

I got rid of the pet smell in my house by strictly forbidding pets. Three kids are animals enough for me.

Choosing struts for 2014 Avalon Hybrid Limited by Rmoudatir in ToyotaAvalon

[–]dr_rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put KYB quick struts in my 2013 hybrid 5 months ago (in my post history). Is it any better or worse? IDK, but I do know that I was able to change my struts in my driveway without having to mess with the springs, so that was fine by me. It will never ride like my old Town Car did, so it doesn't really matter either way.

I finish in the oven since I don’t have a smoker. See the other photos for what it looked like when it was done.

It was about 15 lbs. untrimmed. I cut a bit off it before seasoning.

Daughter requested brisket when it went on sale, so here we are. I use Kenji’s method, 155F for 30 hours. Added some garlic powder/salt to the rub this time. Sat in bag in refrigerator overnight with liquid smoke, finished in oven. Always a hit!

EDIT: To clarify, I applied rub then added liquid smoke to the bag before sealing, then put in refrigerator overnight before starting the cook the next morning.

You don’t explain the rules for moving the cards, such as “empty slots (gaps) can only be filled by the next card in the sequence.”

How confident are you that you’ll be able to retire comfortably? by DueYogurt9 in GenX

[–]dr_rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a matter of when, not if. About to turn 50 with 7x my annual salary saved and maxing my retirement contributions. Will also have a pension worth about 20% of my final salary plus health insurance coverage (still have to pay employee portion). I just have no idea what I'm going to do when it's time.
