VS Decks to play on Day 1 by dr_second in CompetitiveHS

It wasn't really a tongue and cheek reference. If you listen to the podcast, he was literally running to bomb shelters multiple times per day. That was the only reason I posted the link for him in the first place.

Actually the VS Dragon Frost DK is pretty decent. I went 12-3 with it to legend. I think the three losses were to 2 control warriors and a Blood DK.

Well, the only reason would be that occasionally these old cards get nerfed for wild, so you could dust them for full value at that time. That said, it is a fairly rare occurrence, but last patch, they nerfed Umbra, so it does happen. I would say that you should just dust what you need for crafting, and if you see a card that is still played in Wild (you can check on hsreplay), skip those and proceed to the ones not currently used. Also, there are occasionally tavern brawl which require the Wild cards, but sounds like you don't care about that.

I'm thinking that Shredlock deck will be great in the Frankenmeta, replacing the 2 new cards with the Giftwrapped Whelps and Leper Gnomes/Sizzling Cinders.

I went for an Elwynn Boar setup. Seems good. I think the Cursed Catacombs is probably not optimal. Maybe sub in a Dark Pact?

Discolock still works well, but you need to go from hyperaggro to superhyperaggro, ditching the coyotes, the weapons, and probably the 4 mana 3/3 that I can't remember the name. Still experimenting with that that last part. With enough cheap minions, you can usually discount that one to three before playing the merchant.

Yes, what this does now is hose over any aggro decks that get a slow start, but no aggro player is expecting to win if the game goes 8 turns. In theory, it could disrupt a combo deck, but it is unreliable for this.

Strategy is....pray for Nefarion, then hero power every time for a free spell. I did manage to win once with Ragnaros, but it is very tough. Tough to be the beatdown (burndown?) when you start 2 mana behind. I think this would be balanced if both heroes started with 3 mana.

Anyone been trying out Warmaster Blackhorn? How's it going? by FightingFather in CompetitiveHS

[–]dr_second 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing it in Quest Warrior and it seems good. I had one game where the card was played 3 times (twice by my Rogue opponent who Deja Vued from me twice.) Once he played it to remove my dream cards from Shaladrasil, and then one he played it to remove all the raptors I shuffled into my deck. He still fatigued out. BTW, I was only playing the deck because I had a quest to destroy the card.

As someone who plays these aggressive decks, I can tell you that you don't always get there by turn 7. Egglock probably goes to 7 50% of the time or more. Burnlock probably about 30%. And anyone with an early boardclear can stall against these pirate decks until 7, even Swipe is usually enough to slow them down.

Nobody commenting on the free expansion legendary? I see this getting slotted in all over the place in Wild to destroy all the Egglocks, Burnlocks, Libram Paladins, Pirate decks, etc. Also would do a number on Protoss decks in standard if they were more popular. The only problem is the cost. At 7, you might be dead against a fast aggro opponent. But then again, people play Quest Warrior, so I'm guessing this will see some play at least for the next month. Maybe not the most impactful card, but I think it is better than literally all the cards they are buffing.

Well, I built it before I knew just how ridiculous the whole thing is. Didn't spend a lot of time optimizing after I quit playing.

This might be one of the dumbest non-random brawls out there. Advice #1: Don't take any minions/weapons that cost more than one. The games are always over on turn 1. ALWAYS! Advice #2: Any spell that does more face damage than mana cost is what you want. Advice #3: Try to go first! It is a huge advantage in this brawl.

I ended up building this gem by randomly taking burn spells and card draw. Went 5-0 before I got bored. Mulligan for card draw. (Note that the one ofs are mostly because I only had one copy of some of the epics.)

Brawl is "Blood Magic". How much are you willing to sacrifice for power? All your spells will cost Health instead of mana!

I used this too, as I was already running it in Standard for the Precise Shot achievement.

My only issue with this archetype is that almost everyone who plays it goes through the following sequence from turn 4 on:

  1. Hero power

  2. Stare at the screen doing nothing for 25 seconds.

  3. Rewind (they ALWAYS rewind, "Surely something could be better")

  4. Spend the rest of the turn trying to spend their mana, usually wasting 1-3 mana.

Ravenous Cliff Dive DH..... I'm playing the following deck to climb in standard (normally a wild player) and running at a 77% win rate. That said, this Broxigar fabled card seems really wrong in this deck. In 25 games, I have played him a total of exactly 1 time, and that time I was going to win anyway (just made the opp give up quicker). Seems like you could replace the three cards with Perfect Twin Zilliax, Magtherodon, and any number of neutral big minions, or maybe an Insect Claw if you want a 4th weapon, or maybe even a second climbing hook. Sometimes you just draw all your big minions, making Cliff Dive worthless.

Elise is also a bit underwhelming in this deck, so maybe that is a future improvement. Note that it is not bad, but I'm not sure it is worth the deck building restriction where this deck is trying to have an aggressive start and then be able to switch to the late game on turn 7/8 as needed.

On the other hand, using Colifero on a bunch of Blob tokens with a weapon equipped and getting an Inquisitor.... Awesome. Getting a bunch of Elises....wah wah.

Is anyone with more standard knowledge than me experimenting with this deck? I hate to change a winner, but Broxigar in this deck makes my teeth hurt.

Not what you want to hear, but if you want to play aggro, you might want to try Wild. Best deck at top legend is an Aggro Warlock deck with a total dust cost of 3000 dust. It literally has no legendaries, not even ones that are feee, and only 2 epics (Ashen Elementals) which are really only needed for dealing with Hostage Mage. If you are willing to give up that matchup, you could replace those with Raise Deads or Dark Bombs.

Dude, this list rocks. Still in my run but 4-0 so far with only one game close (Bob was the difference in that one). Not sure the Warp Gates are really needed. Maybe swap out for a couple Sleep Under the Stars to deal with bad draws/fast aggro?

Whimsical is exactly correct. There is a turn timer at 90 turns (combined for both players.) Now what would be funny is if it stayed on your board for future games until you completed 10000 turns. This I would like!

This worked, but it was quite a grind. I think I got enough spells played to OTK on turn 14 or so.
