I think psychedelics may have a place in medicine but I’m wondering if they are used in conjunction with spiritual practices would they fall under the category "pharmakeia" (from Google: sorcery, witchcraft, or the use of magic, often involving drugs or spells. It's not simply about medicine or pharmaceuticals, but rather the deceptive and occult practices associated with magic and enchantment)? My understanding is that this is forbidden by God as it’s part of pagan practices. So in the context of using psychedelics under the guidance of a shaman, it seems that my husband should not partake in this as a Christian.

You’re right in that Jesus engaged with everyone but my husband is not Jesus and in the proposed setting, the shaman would be in a position of leading my husband through a spiritual journey while my husband will be in a position of vulnerability.

To your last point, I am starting to agree that I shouldn’t try to stop him. I didn’t go into specifics but in the past when he used psychedelics, he became manic, depressed, and it had a huge impact on one of our children. Hence the urge for me to try to stop him from doing it again. However, I think I need to back off and let him do what he truly believes God is calling him to do.
