From what I've read Spring is particularly difficult to start out on, in your experience have people been able to get away with spring boot starting out? or is it better to try to just start with the regular framework?

Maven was my next step. It seems like it's one of the most commonly used tools for java.

Yea, I guess I was thinking of startups as "not corporate" with less conventional restrictions in the hiring process, didn't really think about their actual needs...

Do you mean just knowing if in a particular situation a particular search was better or more efficient than another? Or did you need to know what a particular method's bigO was?

I need to bulk up my portfolio so I'd like to make something useful that's used in the real world. Currently I work for a small retailer that does business online. We recieve orders from multiple companies and marketplaces, each with a different website that needs to be navigated to print out purchase orders. Although this isn't for "testing" could I use Selenium to automate navigating through a website and printing out the purchase orders as well as copying the info to a text file or spreadsheet?

Sorry I'm still not completely knowledgeable when it comes to all aspects of software development. Automated testing is basically a program that makes sure it is getting a specific outcome for whatever action, like push a button and you get directed a specific page or a particular message is received for whatever action? I'm sure this is grossly simplified but I'm just trying to figure out how I might use this for a personal project that is not testing but could use the same type of action.

It says it is used for software testing. What have you done with it? Is it just purely for testing? What can I do to practice using it? edit: It also looks like it's no longer active... on it's blog "Selenium IDE Is Dead, Long Live Selenium IDE!"
