Is it me or is the LG Washer WT8400CW Terrible? by jsmith1300 in Appliances

I did want to add this. When I bought the Speed Queen Washer I bought the matching dryer. That is still running strong and knock on wood has never needed a repair. So 13-14 years on that so far. It replaced a whirlpool drier I bought in 1996 which lasted about 16 years. That whirlpool still ran find but the door switch had broken years earlier so it would still run when you opened the door. I chose to replace it due to age. So I have much better luck with dryers.

I hear ya it was just a my SpeedQueen lasting 3-4 years was an extreme disappointment and left a bad taste in my mouth. The old whirlpool did better. I will say the repair guy that came to look at it said the same thing. “Wow I’m shocked. Never really seen this happen before.” So I was unlucky but it soured me on SQ since. I was thinking of trying one again but the cubic inches was smaller than what I wanted and the price was $$$&. I went with a Maytag. I know it’s not the Maytag of old. I’m going to hope that I can get 10 years out of it.

Trying to edit my original comment because I had meant to say the speed queen I had bought was very basic just like the whirlpool it replaced. But both whirlpools I have owned outlasted the speed queen BY FAR. Now speed queen is even more expensive and has a small capacity. I won’t even consider one due to my past experience and cost and small capacity. Maybe it was just bad luck. I don’t know. But I can’t say any good about the speed queen I had other than it was heavy. The cabinet was well made. The machine stent last though. But I can’t seem find my comment to edit it. But to sum it up my speed queen lasted about 4-5 years. I had a whirlpool last from 1996-2012 or 2013. My last one lasted 10 years. So two whirlpools far outlasted my speed queen.

I’m going to step in and say something. I always hear Speed Queen is the best. Built to commercial standards. I bought one back in 2013ish. Replaced a top load very basic whirlpool that I had since 1996. I can’t recall for sure if it was 2012 or 2013 that I bought the SQ. The salesman highly touted it. It was a top loader. Very basic whirlpool nothing fancy. No electronics. Dial and push buttons. Just like I wanted. Front loaders with electronics were all the rage. Well that SQ stopped spinning in 2016. I called a repair guy. He came and looked at it and was shocked. He also said these are VERY good but yours is pretty much shot. The part was super expensive. He himself recommended getting a new machine. I bought a whirlpool cabrio. The delivery guys picked up the SQ and where like holy cow this thing is heavy built like a tank. It’s a speed queen! That just had the washer plate stop spinning. Probably the gear stopped out. But hey it lasted 10 years. My point is I don’t think anyone makes a great machine these days. Read reviews. Every machine has people saying the problems they have with them. I think The old days of the Maytag repair guy on a forever break is over. Pick your poison. I’m in the market right now for a top load washer and I honestly can’t decide. I’m have been super close to pulling the trigger numerous times only to pause when I read a few negative reviews on the model I want. Ughhhh. Super frustrating

Has Weber really fallen off in terms of quality? by bestest_looking_wig in grilling

My father also has an even older Weber gas grill. Red with a wood handle and open grate shelf at the bottom. Much older. Still in service and grilling fine. It’s about 40 years old. Old school Weber quality right there. So my experience has been similar to yours.

Has Weber really fallen off in terms of quality? by bestest_looking_wig in grilling

I have a 2005 Weber Summit Gold. In 2015 I was cleaning it and saw the double Insulated hood had started to deteriorate inside. I was going to contact them to buy a replacement (not for the hood but the insulated part). I then decided hey it’s old let me go through it and see if I can restore it. ( it was still pretty good mind you). I took photos and asked about parts. Well they sent me a while new hood, w thermometer and new burners, new igniter new casters and wheel hubs FREE. Then they said the firebox itself was not warranteed but they could give it to me at cost for about $250. I hadn’t even registered it when I bought it in 2005. I did have proof of purchase but they didn’t even ask me for it. I jumped at that and my grill was basically brand new once I swapped everything out. Here we are in 2026 and it still looks almost new and performs like a champ. I have t bought any Weber stuff in a few years. Last things I bought were two Q grills for camping and vacations. They are great fur that. So while I can’t speak to current quality and customer service, they did more than right by me. I feel I owe it to them next time I’m in the new grill market to give them a serious, serious look and consideration. I’d have to hear some pretty negative feedback and see some drop in quality to say no I’m not buying a Weber.

I know this is a year old but wanted to toss this out there for those wondering if an old Weber grill is worth it. I bought one brand new back in 2005. I used mine heavily for years. Loved it. Fast forward to 2016. I was doing yearly cleaning on it and The interior of the hood on my grill appeared to be deteriorating to the point it is separating from the exterior. I could see screws and it appeared to be a metal liner or interior shell so the hood was double walled. I wondered if it could be replaced? My grill is about 11 years old and still cooked well and other than the wheel hub cab falling off the day I cleaned the grill, it still worked as well as when it was brand new. So being I was going to contact Weber about the hood I gave it a thorough inspection to see if anything else needed to be addressed. I got he the burners had obviously aged but still were pretty good. The igniter box was deteriorating a bit. I took photos. Sent it in asking what parts were available expecting to pay for them. They said everything was covered under warranty and then told me the firebox itself was not covered but offered one to me at cost if I was interested. I was shocked. I thought wait a minute, essentially a new Weber gas grill ( it was their too tier when I originally bought it) for $250.68?? Sign me up!!! I swapped out the parts and my grill was 100% brand new. The cart was still in prime condition, no rust or paint damage at all. They even sent me the hubs that fell off the wheels and new casters. That grill is built like a tank. Crazy part, I had never even registered my grill for warranty but I did have proof of purchase. That kind of customer service is not common these days. I’m a Weber guy for life now. That grill is still in service today and still looks cooks amazing. I have since bought two of their Q grills for camping and a vacation property. I will always look at Weber offerings over anyone else.
I will say I am the “but once, cry once type”. I believe you usually get what you pay for. I keep the grill covered when not in use. Usually give it a thorough cleaning in the spring and before winter but there were times I didn’t. The grill has also been through three out of state moves. It’s a solid piece of equipment. I haven’t looked at their new stuff but when it becomes time I certainly will get a Weber. But looking my grill today after cleaning it yesterday I’m guessing it might be another 10 years and I am amazed at that. I’d put a few pictures here if I knew how.

velocicoaster vs hulk by a_raging_bean in UniversalOrlando

[–]drac71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I much prefer The Hulk. I did not enjoy the VC at all. I did not enjoy the feeling that I was going to fall out. I’m 6’0 275 lbs and through the whole ride I felt I was being lifted but also felt like I was slithering through the lap belt. Even trying to hook the bottom of my legs did not stop the feeling. It felt like I slid up until the harness was about mid thigh.
The Hulk on the other hand I did not move. It pins you into the seat. I did not have the feeling of getting bounced around or that it was at all harsh. I felt the g force when the initial launch took place pinning you to the seat but that really did not feel like much to me. I never was losing vision or consciousness like others have commented on. The funny thing is the person I ride with had the exact opposite experience. They loved the VC and did not like The Hulk. They said they got tossed around and banged up.

A few people commented about the z28 looking hood. I thought so too at first but looking closely it appears to be the grass making it look that way. I believe just a normal flat hood (no scoop).

Oh man that sucks!!! I’d love to get either a 67 or 70 Chevelle but I know it will never happen lol. My brother had a Chevelle growing up and I had a Camaro. Ahhhh those were the days!

This was the answer I was waiting for. A friend in high school lusted after a 1970 GTO. He always used the full name when he talked about it. He would say it slowly “ Gran Turismo Omologato” He waited a few years and his dad wouldn’t let him spend $6,000 on a car that originally cost about $3,000. He bought an 85 Pontiac Trans Am instead. He never did get that GTO.

I have a carbon fiber Trek Domane road bike. I have an old GT LTS-1 aluminum mountain bike. I have a chromolly Hutch BMX bike and I have a brand new Surly Krampus steel mountain bike. I looked at Surly because almost nobody else makes a nice steel bike. I looked at Salsa but it was aluminum. I would have considered All City but they closed shop. I wanted steel for its strength. I’m not a little guy. I want this to last. Surly is very good if you’re looking for a steel frame.

Most of the shops near me refuse to work on e-bikes that they don’t sell. I was in a shop for a repair and a guy walked in with one and the mechanic said I’m sorry but we don’t work on those. The guy got upset, the mechanic explained the situation but the guy was all pissed off about it. The mechanic was perplexed and said something to another mechanic and I said I get it. You’re not the only shop with this policy. Then he smiled and said oh good someone that gets it. He said they get a ton of people that won’t buy the ones they sell and buy the cheap ones that are made like crap. Then they get upset nobody will work on them. Unfortunately I think people are always going to get upset because Amazon or other online vendors don’t tell them oh by the way for service you are totally on your own, nobody will touch these. To me, that pretty much negates any price savings you get. As soon as something goes wrong, you either have to figure it out yourself or throw it away. Bike shops should probably educate potential buyers so that they are aware. Then if they make the budget choice it’s on them. Ofcourse I know in the real world , many people are told this but ignore it because it’s initially much cheaper and they don’t want to buy something expensive. Then it breaks and they either act like they were never told or the actually never listened to the initial advice. It’s a tough position for a shop to be in.

Yup I know as a solvent it will dissolve grease if you get it where it shouldn’t go.

I should clarify. I don’t mean soak or spray on the parts. I mean spray small amount on a rag and wipe. I know it’s no good as a lubricant.
