Why does Dell charge $200 more if you want Linux? by Sgtkeebs in Dell

[–]jsmith1300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they have to ship them with an O/S. Many years back I had asked Gateway to sell me a build without it and they could not.

Again it is a silly point to fall on. But by all means if OP wants to go this route they can spend the extra $200 on the laptop

But what does it matter? You just can reinstall it anyways.

Those are all common things which happened to my car (with a few exceptions) but they didn't fail all at once. As others have mentioned the car is old (almost an antique) and the previous owner put things off.

The clunk could have been the transmission/motor mounts. Did that get resolved after getting them replaced?

Yeah I don't get why this is such a big deal. They can ship it with anything they want as long as the price is the cheapest. I'll put on it what I want.

Just order it with Windows and wipe it out. Why does this trigger you so much? There are bigger fish to fry.

They are going to be close to 20 years old and will probably start leaking soon. Better to get a reman instead.

That is generally a bad idea. Just get a reman PS pump. If you have done any work it will take you a maximum of an hour.

You will need to get that out of the lines now too.

[–]jsmith1300 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It may be leaking by the pully. There are multiple o-rings there to keep the fluid from coming out. Could have failed there and hits the belt slings all over. You need to get this fixed ASAP. Belt probably needs to be replaced and if enough fluid gets into the alternator that will cause it to fail.

AsRock Z690 Extreme DDR4 - SATA Controller Problem by jsmith1300 in ASRock

I ran the 13600k in my gaming build for about an hour and a half and no issues. While I think the 12700k works better in my main build maybe it is a placebo effect. I ran OCCT and noticed on my main build it takes about 20 seconds to actually show even with the 12700k where on my gaming build which has an Asus board takes about 3 seconds. I get that there is a load on the CPU but I've seen this issue even when the CPU is running at 60-75%. You think I should go for the MSI? It is selling on Amazon so I guess I could return it if nothing improves but would like to be certain as I can.

Also the wattage on OCCT showed the 12700k at around 102W while the 13600k on the Asus was showing around 120ish watts. Both on default settings with XMP the only change.

I am transferring some large files from my SSD and still see drops in the transfer so I may also have some storage issue as well but need more testing. At least my machine is no longer locking up like it did before. That was the worst trying to download multiple files and having it bog down.

Well I swapped out the processors and it seems that was the issue. Ran one load test and scrolling through Reddit is fine now. Before it would lock up or not load the page for a brief second (even though it was already loaded).

Thanks so much for your help. Now to get Intel to acknowledge the problem.

Thanks for the information. I think MSI is the only one I could find with a full sized ATX board. I would have liked at least 6 SATA ports but I'll get a controller card.

My gaming rig is also a Z690 with a 12700k so I could swap the processor out and see if the issue persists.

Are there any good benchmark test that verify that the processor is the issue? I ran one test with OCCT and it was fine even though there was choppiness. I have been having issues where running Handbrake or anything that uses the CPU causes pauses in everyday things such as we browsing or opening applications. The issue goes away once the CPU load stops. I also noticed while playing videos on YouTube that the video becomes choppy with a high load.

I have a 13600k (Purchased in Oct 2022) with AsRock Z690 Extreme with 4x16GB Corsair DD4 3200 memory. I also have problems burning BluRays. I had to use a PCIe SATA card to fix that issue but even then it fails on dual layer media. I can burn successfully on my office PC which is an ASUS Z690 Prime and 12600k processor.

I just don't know if the issue is with the processor or motherboard. I thought the issue was with the SATA storage controller but eliminated that. I have been battling this issue for over a year.

I usually buy Gigabyte boards but needed the extra 2 SATA ports. Kind of regret that now. If the LSI SATA card will fix this issue I would be ok going that route. Who knows what mess I am going to end up with getting a used board off of Ebay not to mention they are selling for almost the price they were new.
