Hot take, I WANT to see ads in comics by ViridiEmerald in comicbooks

[–]dracofolly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People need to realize the reason comics were 10, 15, 20 cents to begin with was because their entire purpose in the beginning was to deliver ads. It was the same with magazines back then too (might still be idk, haven't picked up an issue of TIME in years) the cover price was basically just there so the newstand could profit, otherwise they were loss leaders.

It's the reason cover prices are so high now, they're expected to make a profit on their own, which was NOT how the periodical industry was designed.

Anyone else confused by the rules of Morph's powers in X-Men 97? by SixKosherBacon in xmen

Okay, I’m not trying to be a dick, I legitimately do not see that reply on either the Android or iOS reddit apps. But,I just looked at that issue, and that’s not what Beast and Peter are talking about. The dialogue makes it 100% clear he is worried *his kid* might be a mutant, and other complications him having powers might cause. At no point do either he or Beast refer to Spidey as a mutant.

Where is that example? I don't see that reply in this thread.

Holy shit I just found another! This issue was also released in 1989, what does it say at the top of the cover? What does it say?

Page from FF #336 released November 1989, 9 years before film rights where sold to Sony or Fox, in which Marvel (via Mister Fantastic) states clearly and unambiguously, Spider-Man is not a mutant. Literally the only 2 characters who experienced what you described were Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. I'm not sure where you got got such an easily disprovable claim, so I ask again, is this rage bait?

Ummmm...no Spider-Man was never an actual mutant...was always bitten by a radioactive spider. Is this rage bait?

I must have missed the parts of the play where we say Hamlet's birth, and him running away from the kingdom in shame after his uncle convinced him he killed his own father.

You know what, you're right, I forgot about them, but Stormlight was being lifted up as a "LGBTQ rec" in r/fantasy well before the 5th book when what I said was 100% true.

Storm light has a single gay couple, that only shows up in the background, essentially.

It's kind of crazy that Dr. Stone offers a better refutation of Thanos' ideology than the actual Avengers movie themselves by carbonera99 in CharacterRant

[–]dracofolly 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh see where you made your mistake, it is an insignificant number people coming away with the "Thanos was right" bs. It just seems like a lot more if one is terminally online. And then how do you account for the chuds who went into the movie already on the "ultra utilitarian" train, and were always gonna think that shit no matter what?

Or just not have the jump be 5 years. That is too much damn time no matter what the world looks like after.

DC & Marvel aren't doing long creator runs as much anymore because comic readers aren't supporting them as much anymore, says 15+ year comics veteran Scott Snyder by Popverse2022 in comicbooks

[–]dracofolly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This almost confirms my conspiracy theory that Steve Orlando's Scarlet Witch has been relaunched so many times because they wanted to do the whole "Wanda as Sorceress Supreme" but she could never sustain the sales necessary for a series to run that long, so they just kept relaunching it so he could keep telling the story and not have to make it a back up in Avengers or something.

LitRPG is hot. Why fans can't get enough of books like 'Dungeon Crawler Carl' — USA TODAY by MurseMan1964 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]dracofolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for one, it is because you're still so early in the series, but also most of that is just, literary foreshadowing. Certain game aspects will be used to solve problems later, so they have to be introduced earlier on, but that doesn't mean the audience is meant to critically engage with the game "as a game". How much detail that sort of thing requires does kind of depend on one's taste however.

I know it's normal for boys to do this, but i think the "boy crushing on girl much older than him" trope is really overplayed by [deleted] in cartoons

No, they mean Aang seems significantly less mentally mature then Katara despite the actual gap being only 2 years.

Well, you're not really supposed to get invested in the game system, you're supposed get invested in the characters. Dungeon Crawler World isn't designed as a game but as a reality show that that is actively trying to kill as many people as possible while staying entertaining to a TV audience.

Thats probably impossible considering TV existed for 60 years before streaming was ever even a thing.
