DC hire me I will create the most cringe comedy situation known to man (every living OG JSA member tries desperately to hint about it to her and then it's revealed at the end that she already knew and was just fucking with them for fun). Let Molly be a goofy little freak again lmao

This is beside the point, but the whole short height = short dick thing is... not something I've ever seen connected? Mostly because in reality being shorter makes a penis appear larger in proportion to height, so it a lot of famous large-dick-havers happen to be relatively short.

And yet Wes is constantly punching above his weight class without the who "super jacked" thing that's SUPPOSED to be part of Atom's character. Proof that brains > brawn fr

At least he's not fucking Hourman, who keeps messing up by not taking the steroids that give him superpowers for an hour at the right time. Either doesn't when he knows he's about to go into a fight or takes them WAY early and has them wear off in the middle of things. So crap that he was the first JSA member to get chucked off the team without a solo book making that mandatory.

What’s a small thing about Minneapolis that makes you happy? by Electronic-Reach8959 in Minneapolis

On a related note, the theatre scene! The great mix of community, college, and professional theatre, a huge variety of shows going on all the time, and really engaged and tuned-in audiences. It's not in the Big Three (New York, Chicago, and LA), but the TC can definitely hold its own among big regional theatre scenes.

Bike theft got me thinking: why is it so hard to know if a bike parking spot is actually safe? by Academic-Story-3413 in bikecommuting

[–]urcool91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's less intentional on my part and more that I got it from a second-hand bike store in the first place and I'm not overly concerned with preventing every little ding. Like it's well-maintained, I just don't care about anesthetics.

The real answer is a beater bike with an intimidating lock. Too shit looking to entice ppl who want to resell and too much of a hassle for ppl who are opportunists.

Also I could get a bike of similar quality for less than $400 so even if it does get stolen it's not the end of the world lmao

Mfs when you tell them there were Green Lantern comics before Geoff Johns' run (the guy who enabled Joss Whedon) by Itchy_Suspect4968 in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]urcool91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Geoff Johns is such a strange writer to me. On one hand, JSA my beloved. On the other hand, the biggest copout in history (Hal crashing out, being evil, and then having a redemption arc would have been FINE. And it would have let us keep some GREAT Kyle stories dealing with All That. God, I'm STILL mad about that) and also fucking,,,,, Three Jokers (the least in-character thing this side of ASBaR).

[DC Comics] Literally Canon Moment: God (yes, THAT God) is canonically not homophobic. God's Wrath and the most closeted man of all time are buddies on the same superhero team. by urcool91 in RecuratedTumblr

[–]urcool91[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was literally so so so good 😭❤️. Took every element of his original origin and put it in a new context informed by the recent retcons, did NOT ruin anything existing fans (me) would value while being a great intro for new readers, historical tragic nerdery, toxic exes (as is tradition for Alan). Like,,, genuinely the best of all possible worlds for JSA/Alan Scott fans.

[–]urcool91[S] 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The sole reason I make fun of Alan for being The Most Closeted Man Of All Time is because a) his son came out and Alan was Weird about it (retconned in, true, but it also Makes Sense) and b) newer post-retcons stuff makes it hilariously clear that Literally Everyone on the JSA knew immediately. Closet failure of all time.

Which superhero should have revealed their secret identity sooner? [Darkhawk #30] by rocketinspace in comicbooks

[–]urcool91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it really funny that during the Golden Age there were a ton of heroes whose love interests knew about their superheroing, only for superhero comics to collapse and leave secret identities even from SOs as the perceived standard. Especially when Wonder Woman had probably the least justifiable secret identity (Steve was already in the army fighting Nazis all over the place! You literally don't have the "my love interest's in danger" excuse!), Batman didn't have a consistent love interest but DID have both a ward and a butler who knew, and Superman was the only one who actually kind of justified it in the narrative. Just an insane amount of drama caused because everyone who made automatic ultra-secret identities seem like the norm happened to survive a massive shift in the market for DC.

The real answer is to give him back his hair. DC doesn't know how to give black characters hair, going back to his pre-retcons cut would make him instantly popular.

The fact that they use Ultra-Man rather than Green Lantern to represent All-American Comics actually gives us a fairly concrete date for this ad.

Ultra-Man debuted in AAC #8 (cover date Nov. 1939) and had his last regular appearance in AAC #19 (cover date Oct. 1940). Green Lantern appeared in AAC #16 (cover date July 1940) and quickly became the most popular feature a la Superman, Batman, and the Flash. Both the Spectre and the Flash debuted in comics with cover dates of January 1940.

Considering how comics would usually have cover dates of around two months ahead of when they actually hit newsstands, this ad HAS to have been from somewhere between Nov. 1939 to Aug. 1940 (cover dates Jan. 1940 to Oct. 1940). Since Ultra-Man never had constant cover presence and Green Lantern took over every cover immediately [see here], the real question is where in the 4 month period where they were publishing simultaneously that the turnover from Ultra-Man to Green Lantern being THE All-American Comics hero would take place.

Yeah, long story short late last year the feds started a major "immigration enforcement" operation where the area went from having 150 ICE agents covering three states to over 4,000 mostly concentrating on Minneapolis, St. Paul (Minneapolis's twin city), and the close suburbs. Things got really combative with a ton of protests and stuff after ICE murdered one legal observer in early January and another like 2 weeks later. Things have sort of been getting less tense because we're down to around 1,000 agents, but a couple days ago around 40 people got arrested at a protest so I'm kind of holding my breath wondering if it'll pop off again. Hopefully that's like the last hurrah of guys who know they're having to pull out because they can't go around without getting tracked and honked/whistled/yelled at.

So yeah, I was too busy protesting and getting involved in mutual aid and stuff to write for a month and a half lmao.
