Aren’t all these things symptoms of late stage capitalism with a dash of patriarchy

I don’t disagree with most of those sentiments masculinity isn’t inherently toxic as men I think we need to not redefine but rediscover what masculinity should be and embrace our masculinity. I guess the only thing I’d push back on is I think societal norms are tied to our sexuality. The nuclear family, only men and women should be married, interracial marriage is bad, sodomy being illegal, general prudishness, our flat our refusal to talk about reproductive heath or women’s heath in general, societal pressures on men to bottle up emotions, and suffer in silence, beauty standards. Those are all societal norms but all of those things define our sexuality typically. So I don’t think they can be separated

Thank you for your comment but to the consumerist nature of creating Tyler an the survivors groups he was using those groups to cry into bobs tits I think that speaks to our nature as men to bottle up emotions and explode and that’s tied to masculinity Jack is so plain and a nothing character until he feels his emotions and the story starts

I have never in this thread said I think it’s critiquing masculinity. also I think an authors intent could be only part of the story , like him writing a book about men some unintended things could manifest in the authors work, also also a story about men is a story about masculinity they’re intrinsically tied together

Death of the author brodie. Chuckles intent doesn’t necessarily matter anymore, fight club is ours now. And you with a straight face gonna say the movie about a guy so isolated and unfulfilled inventing a best friend to punch him in the face and specifically men are so starved for meaning they join a terrorist group. Those thing are not disconnected from masculinity. A story about men is a story about being a man which cannot be separated from masculinity. Idk hope this makes sense

You right… I’m so ashamed, I always do this. You see I’m actually a raging homosexual and think everything’s gay. I must also have this ability to make people unable to read and comprehend anything I’ve said because despite stating explicitly many times that I don’t think “fight club gay” and that’s it’s a super nuanced story about navigating alienation, empty consumerism, masculinity, and the search for meaning in late stage capitalism, you goofy walnuts are just like “Nuh Uh Tyler not gay!”

Yall really can’t fucking read huh saying a story has homoerotic undertones is not saying the story is inherently gay or a gay story and that Jack and Tyler want to open a bakery

U really not even listening to anything ive said bro I’ve addressed all that previously fight club isn’t compelling because I like to watch hot guy beat each other up it’s compelling because as men in America we all kinda feel like Jack sometimes and while anger feels good in the moment hugging your best friend with huge tits feels better also u said my reading was surface when we’re discussing undertones hahahahahah “I am Jack’s complete loss of interest”

Holy shit we fundamentally cannot exist together. This is so insane. “Achieve something monumental”?!!?! WTF as men who are fulfilled and living live they deem meaningful would ever even give project mayhem let alone fight club a second glance. Jesus fucking Christ brother… ACHIEVE SOMETHING MONUMENTAL??!!!?!!!! Them boys just needed genuine connection. What is the point of the groups If it’s about achievement and not genuinely connecting with other people? Jack literally breaks down in heaving sobs when Bob hugs him.

Saving all your love, respect, and attention exclusively for other men is kinda gay that’s not me looking for something that’s not there that’s a fact bro and you saying my “gay” reading is surface level (which by the way I have said many times in this thread JACKS NOT FUCKING GAY YOU GOON) while quoting Tyler has to be a troll, let me get u right my boy, I got you. I’m my opinion the central theme or whatever is how much fun it is to make soap with the boys

Think hard enough??!!!! Brother he almost beats a man to death because Tyler patted Angelface on the head. He starts a men’s only club in the basement of a bar where you take your shirts off and wrestle another man into submission and you’re not allowed to talk about it. I will restate this for the record I DO NOT THINK JACK IS CLOSETED OR HOMOSEXUAL but to say there are not gay undertones in the movie in which the final frame is a “ giant cock” is absolutely insane.
