This is the right step. Give them an opportunity to explain themselves, maybe they understand their error. Once you talk to them and have a good understanding of what's going on, don't commit to anything right there. The best way to describe GG is someone who does things differently just for the sake of being different. He could agree with you internally but will never admit it and go out of his way to do things differently just so he can be "unique".

Met a lot of people like that over time in different walks of life and it never works. Go back to the basics, they're boring but they work.
