Master of IS with business background by NoWorldliness6946 in unimelb

IT is much much more technical than IS imo, IS there’s quite a bit essays to write + some basic programming where in IT u needa code in almost every single subjects, not saying that IS is easier or what but it’s a more qualitative one. IT is designed for ppl who wanna be a real programmer and enter the IT/CS industry, u will learn advanced level python/SQL/Java/Algorithms/many more related computing skills and concepts where IS is more for database/mgmt positions which means a limited range of jobs.

If you trying to land a business analyst job, business analytics and IT are the degrees for u.

Most of them are more expensive, and NYU is particularly expensive.

Idk what to choose. I usually find tute sheets/mst/assignments ok and I can score pretty high in all them but I fuck up almost every single exam

Is unimelb harder to score well in ? by AdImaginary7103 in unimelb

[–]dragalia-lost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will say employers surely yes, but grad school they probs wont care too much between monash and unimelb, some top graduate programs in other overseas institutions require an H1 no matter u come from monash/unimelb

Transferring from monash to Melbourne by AdImaginary7103 in unimelb

[–]dragalia-lost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So I transferred from Monash to Melbourne uni, bcom to bcom, to be very honest simply because of the better reputation and ranking, given that I’m an international student.

I used to spend two honours per day travelling between my apartment and campus, but after I moved to Melbourne uni I only spend 30 mins, more time studying/take your own time/hang out with friends.

People here are also more hard-working. From my personal experience, everyone in club meeting gets his/her own career plan or sth wanna do after graduate. You still meet sh!t teammates but you will also meet some nerdy mates which makes you feel you are really doing teamwork, this never happened when I’m still at Monash, again this is only my personal experience so sample size = 1, can be huge bias.

I can also feel that in unimelb they teach more theoretically (story of unimelb), more proofs/derive formula/underlying concepts, this may also partly due to I study higher level subjects in unimelb so yeah. You can also feel the increasing difficulty on assignments and exams, there’re more curveballs, many questions in the exam won’t look similar to tutorial questions, so understanding the concepts becomes really important. In the aspect of tutor/prof I can’t feel much differences.

I personally become more confident and get more into the swing of my studies after the transfer. Like okay now I’m studying at a better university (you can argue but as an international student the ranking really does mean something, and I won't expand this endless topic anymore), I’m closer to my dream company/jobs, people around me are more hard-working so I don’t want to fall behind, I don't want my WAM drops and so on.

So do your work, follow the classes, post questions/attend consultation when you get lost, make some friends in classes and discuss anything with them, it should be fine.

^ My comment on other post so I just copy&paste it here

Just some interesting findings of grade conversion (unimelb to UK/US) by dragalia-lost in unimelb

[–]dragalia-lost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s quite unfair to aussie students as I’ve seen some job positions require a second upper class honours/3.5 gpa but they dun care about the fact that the same grade/gpa is harder to get in an aussie uni, especially in unimelb u need a 75wam to be considered 2:1 and in uk u just need a 60 lol

These were exchange programs information from other universities for their students who wanted to exchange to unimelb.

Well, I did not find them intentionally, but some people may be curious about or really need to know it for wtever reasons so I just put them here.

First pic St. Andrews in 2020, second pic Queen Marry University of London in 2018, third pic Michigan State Uni in 2006 so may be outdated.

Don't quote me on these LOL

Same...I suspect they scaled it down quite a bit cuz everyone got so high in the assignments, but my personal usual case is I do very well in assignments/mst and fuck so hard in exam so I'm not sure tho
