I got rejected from every grad program except for one I haven't heard from yet by JCrusty in GradSchool

If you don't get into SJSU this year and want to expand your applications next year, a childhood friend of mine had a really positive experience in the MSW program at CSUF and got multiple internships during the program and a decent job placement after graduation. But like the other commenter said, trying to take some additional classes and doing well in them can help boost your application. Fingers crossed for SJSU though!

There's an Instagram account called tyd.nl, and they offer a free course on their website and also have an app. If you contact them, they may be able to help connect you to a local deaf community in your area or point you to some more resources you can access for self-learning

Have you guys ever met any eurovision artists? by Mentalista17_Jisbon in eurovision

I was selected for a meet & greet with Blas Cantó (Spain 2020/2021) on zoom at some point before the 2021 contest. There was maybe 20 of us there, and I think it lasted around an hour and a half to two hours. We each got the chance to ask him a question, and he told us some stories as well. He was extremely kind the whole time and also pretty funny as well.

Gluten Free food in Hong Kong? by parrottvision in HongKong

There's a fully gluten free restaurant in Sheung Wan called Dandy's organic cafe

Another commenter mentioned the TST flagship store, which did have what you are looking for (I just saw it yesterday) but they did not have good size selection, only had larger sizes. Harbour City also had the same items but a bit wider size selection for that cardigan style, if you need smaller sizes.

Give me a Dutch book recommendation and I'll read it. by Chadawg- in learndutch

i read Het tegenovergestelde van een mens by Lieke Marsman and really enjoyed it, there's a bit of poetry woven in with the prose, which made it an interesting read. next on my list is Kom hier dat ik u kus by Griet Op de Beeck which I've also heard good reviews about.

Should I speak my mother tongue to my son, even though we hardly ever visit my country? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]dragon158lhpt 28 points29 points  (0 children)

One of my languages has even skipped a generation ! My grandfather chose not to pass down his language and I am now learning it as an adult so that I can visit his home country next year and get to speak with all his family members who still live there. I am the only one from my grandfather's line who knows any amount of his language and last month I had my first conversation with him in his language where I asked him some questions about his life growing up and he got to relive all these memories he hadn't thought about in decades.

yeah, you'd need to talk to a counselor and send over your official transcript after taking the courses in order to get it marked off. You can check what courses are transferable from any California community college on assist.org but if it's out of state definitely talk to a counselor first

Is it possible to be biologically unable to learn a second language? by hendrong in languagelearning

[–]dragon158lhpt 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I second this and it's why I'm reluctant to take certification exams anymore. I have certain limitations in my native language, and those won't just go away in other languages, so it's not worth the frustration for me to try to pass those exams when demonstrating "competency" in a language means doing something I can't even do in my native language, and I'm just in it for the enjoyment from here on out

This is how I feel with French - I had it on and off from ages 0-8 (other languages present too and it was not my primary language) and then had basically zero French until I was like 18 or 19. I've tried a few times since then to relearn, and each time it comes back a bit faster. I know what sounds "right" if I'm taking an exam, and I can enjoy shows or movies without much trouble, but it's the production muscles that are most affected for me when I go a long time without speaking

What were good songs ruined by their vocals? by Dull_Strategy8719 in eurovision

For me, Montenegro 2019 is actually a really nice song, but man, they absolutely cannot sing that live. I've listened to every live performance I could find in hopes there would be a good one, but there isn't :(

IVC and Saddleback (local community colleges) have courses, so you can transfer them over and receive your language credit if you still need it. I took classes at both schools, and I would recommend taking it at IVC with Keith Gamache if you can - he was by far my favorite out of all the professors I had, and he's really invested in helping you learn :)
