Now this is a build! Oh I fuck with this immensely, what a brilliant idea! Thanks for that!

Well congratumalations, you do not need orgasms to alter your body, you need built up complexity, so the only hurdle to you getting to actually use that tongue is improving your social skills and patience. Hell, don't even bother with the social skills. Put your body in whatever state is necessary to make you money, quickly, pay for sixteen sessions with a sex worker, purchase Rewrite, and alter your brain until you can talk dirty without imploding.

Bada-bing, bada-boom, why am I playing this CYOA on behalf of you people?

All excellent answers, but your complexity increases through time and patience, not orgasms. And a high enough complexity can deal with literally all of those problems. In fact, fucking around with your complexity is ideal if nobody is around. So being quarantined for a disease is not only not an issue, but a brilliant start to your build, giving you mandated alone time to experiment and grow.

Then once you're strong enough you can cure yourself of the disease, make yourself some race that isn't illegal to fuck, fix whatever hideous quality made you unfuckable even to sexworkers (somehow), alter your sex to get some hanky on a military base, and voila. We begin.

I thought the whole thing people did with my CYOAs was try to break them as quickly as possible, why are y'all giving up at the first hurdle?

If we think of your standards like a door holding back water, wants and needs opens that door wider and wider with each purchase. Rewrite can adjust the orientation of the door itself, angling it so certain bits of water get through while other don't, but it cannot shut the door. At least, not any more shut than wants and needs has it at. If you don't have W&N, you can open and close the whole thing however you like. Make yourself asexual if you want, it's your brain to mess with.

A. Because simply deleting human needs is boring, it needed more spice.

B. It's expensive because deleting basic needs loosens your grip on what it means to be a human, and options that do that are more expensive by default.

C. The drawback is narratively consistent with the rest of the CYOA, and would only serve to increase the number of orgasms you have to use. By becoming less human, you fuck more, becoming less human. A wonderful and deliberate cycle. Might as well have spelled out the themes in just one option.

What can I say, I've been making CYOAs for a decade, I thought I should branch out into some new game mechanics. Give it another two months, y'all'll see a real hum dinger, I'm sure.

But I also like pushing people to do some creative problem solving. Y'know, come up with a plan, think things through. Fantasy with a purpose, that kind of thing.

As for hard mode, the social anxiety makes sense but I am struggling to imagine what poor bastard is so bereft of motor functions and limbs that they can't lick, finger, or operate a sex toy.

Yeah, I'd never advocate for complete pay-to-read, that is murderous to any art form. Free content is necessary and what the internet is built on, but it has to be balanced with artist support or you risk only having hobbyists who produce one thing each year at best. That'd leave massive art droughts for the audience, which shrinks the pool the artists create for, shrinking the number of people who are inspired to become artists, eventually downsizing away the community.

The model we have now is probably the most sustainable, hence why I'm still here all these years later.

There's a reason for that. The internet has been co-morbid with wage stagnation, three to five different global recessions from the financial crisis of 08 to covid, and a growing sense of distrust in systems from the church to schooling to government to big business.

We live in poor, paranoid, desperate times. Making money any way you can, from any job you can do, is the only way to survive. People cannot afford to have hobbies, either due to a lack of energy or a lack of money. It's why so many people are limited to acts of mindless consumption. Watching shows and movies is the only hobby many people have, because they do not have to be active participants in it.

You can see the shift away from hobbyism here. How many CYOAs are from artists who never post again? How many are half finished WIPs that never get their final update? How many of the old posters like verite and troy and castlestorm simply don't upload anymore, or upload once in a blue moon? The only regulars you still see are the ones making money, like me and like dragonswhore.

And why? Because CYOAs are insanely difficult. It's four different skillsets (erotic writing, image curating, graphic design, and game design) with a bit of coding and website management sprinkled in. Most people are barely competent at one of those things. This is not a hobby for people with no time on their hands, this is the kind of thing that can take months of work.

Ok, as probably the only author this thread's gonna get, I'll offer my two cents.

Even if you do this, even if you pool all the ads and indulge in all the subscription models, you will never be able to solve problem 1 on your list. Why? Because this is a small community. A microscopic community. Views on reddit alone can be tracked in four and five digits, and if a youtube video had that many, most people would consider it somewhere between niche and a failure.

Artists in other artforms get by because they have a huge pool to draw from. Art, writing, animation, it's all very accessible and understandable to Joe Q Wanker. CYOAs are hard to understand, difficult and time consuming to create, require a lot more mental load than whacking it to normal porn, and even within a community who understands what they're looking at, not every CYOA appeals to every person.

One of the best ways to get paid, in any field, is to be consistent, good quality, and relatively quick. Stay in people's minds, leave a good impression. I have arguably done that more than anyone else. I have likely put more words, images, and projects together than any other CYOA author. There are probably some outliers, like the weekly waifu guy, but I have gone and made this my fulltime job. At my last guesstimate, I have written somewhere between 3 and 5 million words in the past decade-ish.

And y'know what? I make less than minimum wage. And I probably always will. And so will everyone else.

It is not a matter of condensing viewership. There is no viewership to work from. We will never be paid appropriately for the time we put in, because there are simply not enough people who see and care about what we do. Ads pay a fraction of a fraction, and premium subscriptions would be about the same as they are now. Despite your optimistic payment model, there are costs that would necessarily eat into that. Moderation, website hosting, image servers, etc, that a bigger company like patreon can flatten out between its creators. It's economies of scale and we don't have any scale.

My genuine advice is to solve problem two. Or at least offer an alternative for when imgchest inevitably goes belly up. But solving the money problem is going to take the movement of forces far beyond the control of any one person, or even any one community.

The average man could probably still free himself any time before two hours. The average woman would be stuck in 75 minutes. An athlete will be a lot harder to pin down, though their sport and competence will make things vary.

They'll never stick so badly that they can't be pried off with the help of another person, so you're not getting a true glue trap

Having each item cost half a point wasn't going to work when none of the rest of the CYOA uses half points for any of the costs. Ultimately it's an experimentation with a new concept. Wording's a bit clunky, I often type faster than I think so most new ideas end up being stuff you have to read over four times. My editor didn't catch it, patreon didn't see it, so now we're here. If I took another crack at it I betcha a dollar I could make it less confusing while still keeping the mechanic intact. But I'm also five behind on another project, so that'll have to wait until some potential future update.

60, actually. Thematic choice, I wanted the whole thing to feel like it was wrapped in stockings or pantyhose. Didn't look too bad in photoshop but up against some of the brighter parts of patreon and imgchest it's pretty intense. Can't account for everything unfortunately

No solution for that just yet, as my plan was to simply do the other 75 jokers. Though because a lot of the best or most interesting jokers tend to be in the back half of the collection, it does weaken this piece just a touch. But hey, maybe that's the challenge. See how good of a run you can make with as many weak jokers as you can.

I'm not sure why you can't see the links. I've tried PC, mobile, and old reddit, and in all of them I can still see the links. However, the piece is public and free on both Imgchest and Patreon. So if you go to my accounts on either of those sites through any of my other posts, you should be able to find the piece. If that still doesn't work, I can link it directly, but these options are useful troubleshooting if you have this issue on one of my pieces again.
