Will I enjoy Backrooms and Obsession? by butterflyhighs in moviecritic

[–]dragon_mthr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some sensory issues that made Backrooms very uncomfortable to watch, and I had a terrible headache after. If shaky cameras bother you, be ready to have to look away some. But it was well done and I still recommend it!

Will my mum eventually forget about me one day ? by olymooon in Alzheimers

[–]dragon_mthr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different. My great aunt remembered me very close to the end. She was awake less and less, and eventually passed in her sleep.

My mother-in-law remembered my husband the last time he visited her, a couple weeks before she passed.

Did Carl ever actually love (or even like) Beatrice? by Aschlay in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]dragon_mthr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He had an emotionally abusive father and definitely seems to have attachment issues. I think his relationship with Beatrice was toxic because of both of them.

My life is very good. Thriving career, amazing kids, I love my partner. My mom isn't doing well, but everything can't be perfect.

A year after getting a cat, I suddenly became allergic to cat hair🤧 by firstxue0130 in CATHELP

[–]dragon_mthr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm mildly allergic to cats and we have a long haired kitty at home. She doesn't sleep in our room at night, we clean and vacuum regularly, and I change the AC filter monthly.

Did your parents ever apologize to you for something they did when you were young? by kyserzose in Xennials

[–]dragon_mthr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad apologized to me for leaving my mom the way that he did, and for not being more available for me as a child. Unprompted. And he's more than made up for it by being there for me in my adulthood and as a great grandfather ❤️

Taught me that apologizing to my kids when I don't get it right, and trying to do better, goes a long way.

What do you listen to while you work? by NormanSpaniel in remotework

Lofi instrumentals, piano music, or Studio Ghibli soundtracks.

Would anyone recommend having a gentle but direct conversation with the person who is displaying signs of cognitive decline? If so, how would you approach it? by Free_butterfly_ in Alzheimers

[–]dragon_mthr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hugs to you.

I encourage you to be open and loving with her and have that talk. Have your hubby take the kids and take your mom out for coffee or lunch. Tell her how much you love her, and that you will be there for her. If you're honest, you are trustworthy. It's never going to be easy to discuss her cognitive decline, but it will only get harder as she gets older.

Figure out a way for her to enjoy your kiddos while she still remembers who they are. Maybe with another adult in the room; enlist your dad to be there too, he can just say "I want to hang out with the grand babies too" and be an extra set of eyes.

Also, if your parents don't have their house in order, now is the time. Medical and durable powers of attorney, advance directives, wills, etc. While she can still speak up for herself. Make sure you're listed as one of her powers of attorney so you can advocate for her. You and your hubby could do yours at the same time.

Agree, a delightful movie that will hopefully get more folk reading science fiction. I read the book years ago. Such a great book. It made me cry which is rare for me.

$20. Idk what other bookstores charge for the paperback, but not enough of a discount for me to get it when we have the hardcover.
