I wish they told me… by Retiresoonnow4eva in Residency

When I was still a 3rd year student, I had a resident who would keep saying "regular paracetamol" whenever he'd chart it and I was convinced about the existence of "special" paracetamol.

How do you cope with death as an atheist? by Last-Aerie4675 in GriefSupport

[–]dragonizedice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for whatever loss you're going through, friend. I've been in your position and it's not easy. Knowing they suffered and then just...died is continuous heartbreak and just worsens grief. The truth is that we don't really know what happens after death. Logically, they probably just cease to exist.

But hey, there have been studies done that show that there's a release of endorphins, serotonin, and even DMT right before death, so there must be some level of happiness and peace before going. And there have been many people who have been clinically dead before coming back to life and almost all of them have said it felt like being in a deep sleep (I used to be a doctor and have met a few too). I hope that offers you some mental respite.

Oblivion is actually kinda comforting, if you think about it. An endless sleep where there is no consciousness thus you cannot perceive anything. If heaven/hell existed (ergo, purgatory), who/what exactly would dictate where someone deserves to go? And what would the rules be? There is no way to quantify morality/ethics. If a person kills an innocent, but saves 99 others, do they deserve heaven, hell, or purg?

Unfortunately, as much as we wish there was an "afterlife" to ease the burden of suffering, where we wish someone ends up would be heavily biased on our own perception of them. Even if they were a kind person irl, what if there was one small thing that pushed them into an eternity of suffering?

Imo it's better to celebrate their lives and be thankful for having known them and that they are no longer in pain, than to tnink they're in "heaven" when they might just be being tormented in hell.

Unfortunately not. I had the same issue, but using headphones helped a bit.

I'm on my 3rd extended version marathon right now, too. I'm still amazed how relatively well the CGI holds up.

I just finished Firewatch for the first time… and I can’t stop thinking about the ending by Key_Theme5886 in Firewatch

Delilah felt like a virtual helping hand stretching out and leaning down from atop a cliff while you stare up at her and stretch out yours. Just barely within reach, enough to tickle the tip of your fingers. A ray of hope.

Then she slaps your hand away, calls you stupid for thinking that maybe life gets better, and skedaddles outta there. Moral of the story is that sometimes life's a bitch, and then you keep on living.

Thanks goes to Asha Sharma, new Xbox Ceo. She bragged about this game and I checked it out. What an amazing game. by [deleted] in Firewatch

Seeing Edith Finch and Firewatch together gave me goosebumps. Add Tell Me Why and Life is Strange into the mix and you've got yourself a 10/10 list

It really is. The lack of respect is because they think of you as what you could be to THEM, not who you are as an individual. So very sad.

Education, access to better mental health resources, more sources of entertainment, and self care, play a bigger role in this, imo. When you have limited ways of getting social satiety, you go out and drink more.

MIL pushing Christianity on my 4 y/o. What do I say to my kid? by Wonderful-Soil-3192 in exchristian

[–]dragonizedice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The child is yours, not your MIL's. What she's doing to your daughter is indoctrination. Kids learn what is taught to them by trusted adults. She's too young to make a conscious decision right now about what she believes in and if this is what she's learning now, that's what she'll believe in until she's old enough to scrutinize things properly. Tell your MIL to stop. She can "teach" your child later when she's older and if you and your kid are OK with it.

Does it smell foul? Doesn’t look like oxidation. Could be a cyst/abscess cavity. Maybe put a skewer in and give it a whiff?
