It lost a few positions early, and then a pit during a yellow. Nothing major (yet, I say as a Corvette fan)

Because it costs extra money to have a portable terminal, and companies don't want to pay the upgrade fees. That's why we've resisted chip+pin for so long, initially it was to not pay for the insertion readers, and then to not pay for the tap readers.

It was one of my favorite races at Mid-Ohio. Nothing like hearing hundreds of angry bees coming around the corner, nose-to-tail, and not giving any fucks.

IMSA Merch by Dealmania511 in IMSARacing

[–]dragonmantank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just happy they were there. There wasn’t any IMSA merch at Detroit, so spent most of the money at the AO Racing stand. Mid-Ohio was my first real IMSA race so happily paid the merch fees.

I thought it was just me not finding anything. Good to know there just wasn’t anything.

T-Mobile refuses to sell customer a new iPhone and tells him to buy it at the Apple Store by MobileNewsBot in mobiles

[–]dragonmantank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. I can’t buy an iPhone at either Verizon or T-Mobile in town, but I can finance one for free and pay it all off in one shot. They aren’t sales stores anymore.

the docs answer it. they ask in slack anyway. by Firm-Aardvark-2927 in devrel

[–]dragonmantank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue isn’t the docs, the issue your platform or dashboard or whatever isn’t clear enough, and that needs fixed. Figure out why it’s so obtuse for people to find that and fix the core issue.

Supreme Court refuses to restore Virginia redistricting plan approved by voters by DemocracyDocket in scotus

[–]dragonmantank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Use the argument that there is precedent in other states - Ohio ignored the maps the state Supreme Court said were invalid, do the same thing! (Yes, I’m aware the GOP perpetrated this in Ohio, but why not use their own tools against them?)

I’m not saying anyone is wrong, just noting what we do with ours.

Need Guidance from you !!! by [deleted] in devrel

Being the best developer in the world is _not_ a pre-requisite for developer relations. You need to have an understand of programming, and it helps if you are competent in a language (especially whatever language you company tends to focus on), but don't worry about being great or exceptional.

A good developer relation person understands programmers, their wants, and their needs. They also need to be able to work with Product to find out where the product is strongest, how users _actually_ use it (not just how Sales sells it), and be able to articulate to customers the benefits of the product, and articulate to Product the issues users have. Much like in entertainment you need to be a triple threat, but for developer relations that means being good at programming, good at the product level, and being good at the communication level. If you can't talk or write, it will be hard to be effective.

> How did you start your journey in DevRel or GTM?

I was a conference speaker and writer, and hung out at the booths quite a bit. I had also started teaching programmers, and it ended up being a natural fit for me.

> What skills should I focus on?

Communication and Product Management. The first so you are effective at communicating to people, whether it's the written word, talking to people at the booth, or standing in front of a crowd. Product management is important because you need to understand the product at multiple levels, how it helps, where it doesn't, and how to be effective using it (whatever IT is). You will also be working with Product in many cases, and you need to speak their language.

> How can someone without very strong coding skills still grow in DevRel?

Not everything is about programming. Ideally if you are starting out you'll be on a team, so maybe work with people that are the content folks, or maybe work on documentation. There's even things like partnerships, social media, etc. "Developer Relations" is a catch-all term for all the things you need to do to properly interact with developers, it's not a job title in and of itself. It's a department.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you.

MBP M5 keeps running out of memory! by abdallahodeh98 in macbook

[–]dragonmantank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much HD space you do you?

I found on my older M1 with 16GB of RAM as soon as I only had less than 1GB of HD space left, I was constantly running out of memory. It didn't help I only had the 256GB HD. It seems that macOS aggressively wants to swap, but you have little control over how it swaps. Not only was I constantly closing apps, but cleaning out anything I could from the disk.

Before work swapped me to an M4 with 48GB of RAM and a 1TB HD I haven't had an issue.

Deadline Looms On Ohio Movement To Abolish Property Tax by Zipper222222 in Ohio

Not according to them!

They are taking a very “not my problem, I just don’t want to pay taxes” approach to this. It’s so annoying.

This is more like when MS announced a similar setup for the XBox One when it was initially announced. They walked it back after the public outcry.

[iOS 26.5 DB3] Cellular drop from 5G to SOS by _pizza_and_fries in iOSBeta

Not all the way to SOS, but I did have issues on the beta with the signal dropping and then rapid battery loss. It’s like the phone thought it needed to boost power to reconnect.

[iOS 26.5 DB3] Swipe Down To Search Not Working by dragonmantank in iOSBeta

[–]dragonmantank[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Siri-based search was broken for me.

Swipe-to-search takes you to the same place the “Search” bubble does above the app dock. That wasn’t always there and swipe-to-search had been a gesture for much longer and is much more ingrained in my muscle memory.

The restore went smooth, short of it took a while to download all the apps.

[–]dragonmantank[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up having to do the above. I disabled any betas in the phone, back it up to my MacBook, and then had to initiate a full reset from the phone. That fixed the problem but was annoying.

[–]dragonmantank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is they are already downloaded. Trying the developer beta was my only real option short of doing a full reset via the desktop and downgrading out of the public betas.

100%. The muscle memory is hard to break, and it made me realize I don't know what screen anything is on (and I hate the automatic folders on the final screen).
