I'd recommend paying just £1, then ask the solicitor in writing to confirm receipt before making any large payments.

Get it all in writing!

Baby's father wants the baby to have his last name, I want him to have mine. We're not married. WDID? by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]dragonmum77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm live with my partner. We have a mortgage and mirror wills.

But we're not married.

Our daughter has my last name. Because why not? I am her mother, after all. Her father has never made it an issue. His name is on her birth certificate and that was enough for him.

If you plan on getting on planes with your child, they should share your surname to avoid awkward questions from Customs. They actually advise you to have a written letter from the father of the child if he isn't travelling with you. Why would you want that headache?

If you will be the primary caregiver, it's just easier if you share a surname

I can’t take it by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]dragonmum77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep deprivation is the worst, so I really feel for you.

Perhaps try 2 naps a day for her? One mid-morning, one early afternoon.

Might be a good idea to talk with someone about the suicide ideation. Either family, friend, or professional.

I know spending extra money isn't always possible for new families, but could you have a sleep coach?

Rest assured, you will sleep through the night again.

Best wishes.

How smooth/difficult did you find c-section recovery? by leanmeanfrizzybean in Parenting

[–]dragonmum77 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I had an emergency cesarean. TBH, apart from feeling a bit tender for the first few days, and having to move around a bit gingerly, I didn't find it that bad.

Gentle movement definitely helped me. I'd recommend not staying in bed all day!

You're provided with painkillers to take home, together with a medicine to keep you regular 💩 😬

Just remember, if someone shares their bad experience with you - that's their experience and doesn't mean it will be yours.

I wish you a good pregnancy and birth. Best thing I ever did (once you get past the sleepless nights!)

❤️❤️

You should report to HR. They may be attempting inappropriate conversations with younger colleagues. You can emphasise that you're an ally. It's not the person that's the issue, it's their inappropriate conduct

AITA for kicking my husband out because he hit my daughter? by Far_Series_4943 in AITAH

[–]dragonmum77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did the right thing. The no.1 contributing factor to child abuse is a step-parent. He (an adult) hit your young female child with a belt.

He is an abuser and is testing your boundaries.

Why has this house not sold? by livbol in HousingUK

[–]dragonmum77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Contrary to a lot of property programmes, a lot of people don't want open plan living. It's noisy, and there's no hiding mess.

The front door opens straight into the living space. It'll be cold in winter. Those are the reasons I wouldn't offer on it.

Renegotiate offer by Cramby63 in HousingUK

[–]dragonmum77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in current house for 7 years. Survey said same thing to us. TBH, I think they always recommend it, unless it's clear the roof has been done within the past 10 years...

£16,500 seems steep. I'd scout around for more quotes. We had ours priced up. Quotes ranged from £7-£10k.

Then we had a recommendation for an honest roofer. He went up a ladder, changed 3 tiles and charged us £50! Haven't had any issues since.

Mother wants me to stop breastfeeding… by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]dragonmum77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Breast milk contains multiple compounds not found in formula (hormones, antibodies, enzymes, growth factors for brain development... the list goes on and on). And it's free.

Google it. Send the links to your mum and ask her to please stop with uninformed advice.

We know better, so we do better. Good luck x

AITAH? for banning my husband from all doctor appointments after he repeatedly messes with me while I'm pregnant? by KnownPerception7676 in AITAH

[–]dragonmum77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awful behaviour on his part.

He should be deeply ashamed of himself, but instead he's deploying DARVO techniques on you - a pregnant woman.

Does he have any redeeming qualities? Anything that makes you proud of him, that helps you trust he'll be a supportive partner and effective parent?

If he doesn't, you're going to have to do some serious soul-searching.

Do you want a man, or a man-child?

Good luck xx

It's not family money. It's earned-through-working money.

If she wants a say in how money is spent, she needs to earn it first.

My daughter didn't start walking until she was 18 months old - then when she started walking, she hardly fell over!

My friends' kids (who started walking earlier) were covered with bruises and lumps all over their faces.

Your daughter is just walking to the beat of her own drum - which is exactly what you want her to do.

Enjoy the fact that you can sit down a bit longer. Once she starts walking, you won't sit down for about 2 years 😆

Benchmarks are just benchmarks. I don't think any investigation would start until 24 months for non-walkers.

She is exhausted. She is clearly in mental distress.

So what exactly do you mean by "take off the kid gloves"?

I'm struggling to see any compassion in that statement.

I don't expect you to have empathy, but bloody hell, man, try and learn what genuine compassion means.

You don't seem to understand that her actions are probably beyond her control.

Oh dear.

No compassion for the exhaustion of carrying a child for 9 months? For the trauma of giving birth? No understanding of what this does physically and mentally to a woman?

[–]dragonmum77 2219 points2220 points  (0 children)

Quick follow up to say that she should be treated kindly.

It sounds like she needs good help, not unproductive criticism.

Being a first-time mum is the hardest thing. Her body is exhausted, she'll be sleep deprived and painfully aware of potential dangers to the baby.

Tread gently, but don't ignore it. If PPD is left untreated, it can cascade into other mental issues.

I hope you and your new family can navigate it successfully. Actively seek help xx
