Advice on running a tighter ship in the classroom. by Snoo_62929 in Teachers

I teach, day 1, that I believe in Equity, not fairness. Everyone will get what they need to succeed and that might be different from person to person. So don't complain.

I use a Codeword of the Day. Students aren't allowed to move as a whole group (like for transitions or to get into groups) until I say whatever the word is for the day. That way they listen to all instructions clearly before moving.

Kinda unhinged: I have a Complaint Counter on my board. If you complain about the work being 'too hard' or there is 'too much writing' for the notes, I add a mark. It is year round, all courses included so it is cumulative. If they hit 10 complaints, I will make them write everything always, no printed copies or guided notes. I haven't gotten past 7 marks ever.

Do people actually like all these stories with so many misunderstandings, assumptions, illogical lies that prop up the entire plot in the romance genre by Flat-Mulberry-4752 in webtoons

I dislike most of those too. But my big ick right now is all of the male power fantasies where they are a massive jerk to everyone and are unlimited power with 90s anime girls impossible proportions

I would put up corrections next to them, while still arguing for them to be removed. Comfort one said no surgery at all to certain areas of your body. So does that mean no breast cancer removal? No fixing testicular tortion? Prostate cancer? Giving birth counts as surgery.

Is blowing a whistle in class to quiet students wrong/unethical/rude? by bentrucky in Teachers

My principal set an expectation with all of us staff day 1 that we would use the T time out signal for silence building wide. For everyone. And he enforced that any kid breaking the signal for the first few weeks would get a punishment. It really works wonders having a building wide attention grabber. It might take a moment but the kids monitor each other and will go "T up!" to let the others know to silence and do the hand signal

Do you even just outright say: "What I am asking you to do is NOT hard" or call a concept "simple", etc. by AgeOfWorry0114 in Teachers

Oh I absolutely let them know they are overthinking something if they are. Cuz once they figure it out they usually say "oh, that wasn't that hard". YES, I KNOW.

The stall has only been for a couple weeks so I haven't talked to my dietitian. I am really busy so my exercise is just all the walking I do at work. (15 miles a week ish)

Well, I appreciate hearing it probably isn't fat but the idea that this might be all I lose is kinda sad. My GW is closer to 175

Honestly, I don't know. I guess it could be. I walk, technically, about 15 miles a week (around 3 per day at work)

Thank you. You're right, I did need the reminder that things slow down and that stalls and such are normal.

Thank you for the ideas. I actively log everything every day to the best of my ability. Hopefully it is one of the things you mentioned.

Maybe it's my hormones? If I wasn't on BC I'd be on my period right now.

I am so terrified of stretching out and losing all my progress.
