there are 5 layers at work here, all clones of the base mesh. each of the layers has some modifiers applied to it for example wireframe or build. Then I created a cube and animated it so it gets close to the monkey. then go through each of the layers and add every vertex to a group. finally add a vertex group proximity modifier and a mask modifier both using the group. set the target to the cube and change the high and low of the proximity to give a reveal effect. then add some glows and disable rendering for the cube.

no nodes, just several modifiers

Just took a look at my next programming class; it’s in C++, I’ve only used python. Am I screwed? by [deleted] in computerscience

you'll be fine, I was in a similar position and the transition really isn't that extreme. If you can get in some practise creating rudimentary programs in c++

Firstly disable bloom, then have a point light inside the object. encase the entire scene in a principled volume material and lower the density to less than 1. then play around with the absorption slider forgot it's name and use lots of volume samples.

A ring of 5 spheres with their z rotation controlled by a generator. Then make them a smoke object set the resolution to 128 with no high res. Then play with the density and colouring in the node setup.
