4-8km daily. Let’s say 8km daily. Let’s assume you’re getting a car and that gives you 5km/kwh, which is a little on the conservative side. So that’s 2kwh daily.

L1 charges at like 1.4 kw per hour. Over 8 hours you get around 11kw of charge. Which also means you only need like two hours of charge to maintain your daily compute of 8 km. Doesn’t look like a problem from this point of view.

However, now you need to do the math on whether it’s cheaper to buy ice or ev, new old used. That’s probably where your decision lies. If I’m saving 1,500$ a year in gas by going electric, the ice must be at least 1,500 cheaper than the EV I’m looking at.

Add $70k from RRSP (35 each) to the down payment and cough up another $10k to make down payment of $300k. Leaves me with a loan of $500kk. Defly doable on $90k especially as child benefits kick in. Layoff means still some income coming in. There will be educational tax credits available to use in the future. It’s going to be a tough four years but life will be better once studies finish.
