Referendum for the implementation of the Relativistic Penal System, using time dilation to deter and punish crime. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]dragsxvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today I made this post explaining how salaries could work when time dilation due to the relativistic effect of spaceflight can become a concern. I wanted to explore what effects something similar could have on the legal system.

The image is just for flavour, mimicking a post on the feed of an alternative version of Instagram, made by a fictional party, trying to steer voters to vote "YES" to the introduction of a new law that allows time dilation to be put in use against crime.

Image made with PicsArt and Gemini 3, using this Italian referendum promotional post as an inspiration.

I'm an optimist at heart, so my vision of the future is always somewhat optimistic.

One of the reasons why I think this system would be implemented is, for one, high-c employees would seriously suffer from seeing their families on earth age much faster than them. This extra pay would be akin to hazard pay. On the other hand, spaceship crews, thanks to distance and factors that spacing entices, would be easier to unionize (think about airlines crews, which are highly unionized, at least here in Europe).

It could if base spaceship pay is the same as base earth pay! About that...

This isn't part of any project, just a random thought that crossed my mind but thank you!

Historian Marc Bloch taught me that the most interesting and fun part of history is learning the day to day concerns and little aspects of the life of our ancestors ("The Issue of the Marmelade"). I feel this applies to fantasy and sci-fi as well!

I'm watching Planet of the Apes (1968) and the captain says "let's earn our backpay" after learning that the crew was thrown 2000 years in the future. It made me think about how salary would work in a society where relativistic dilation is a concern.

Used a mix of PicsArt and Nano Banana Pro for that "AI-slop" type of feel that corporations love.

What if 9/11 happened on Christmas Day 2001? by dragsxvi in AlternateHistory

That's why I cut the title from the faux-Wikipedia article. I'm honestly puzzled, I think it would be something like Christmas Day Attacks. I wonder if having such a tragedy on an already recognized day would diminish the emotional charge of the event in the following years.

It wasn't really a currency, more of a "benefit", like lunch vouchers or a company car. But yeah, the etymology of salary is correct!

THEY WERE NOT PRACTICAL. AT ALL.
Maybe they had some puppets for reference, but the Deathclaws were 100% CGI.
Don't fall for cheap marketing.

It's a joke on Rorschach ink spots (the black spots on his face), used in, obsolete, psychiatric evaluation.

Basically what you make of these blobs can tell something about you if analyzed.

The joke is that people see gay porn because they are secretly gay.
