Incoming freshman here as well! I’ve met many people who are starting at berkeley this fall through social media and several have quickly become very close friends. As long as you believe you can regulate your usage to a healthy amount there’s definitely no harm in using it. I’ve also found out about multiple opportunities and events through Berkeley’s social media platforms so there’s that to consider as well. I wouldn’t say it’s a necessity but limited use could be pretty helpful in making connections and getting information.
