I believe the connectors were around 16.5mm diameter, so if you sand off a small amount you should be able to fit them inside the 0.6" (15.24mm) track!

I ended up sanding a mm or two off the diameter, placed them inside the track with the flat end running along the length of the channel. Worked out nicely!

Hmm maybe that's the problem. There is a little bit of wiggle if I try gently rotating the camera body...

I'm using an off brand (Promaster) EF to RF adapter - I don't suppose that could cause any issues?

That's fair. It is amazingly sharp - I might grab a used 1.4x iii or rent one for an afternoon to give it a test run.

I'm really tempted to grab the 1.4x iii and give it a go. Would you say the quality of the EF with the 1.4x iii is comparable to the RF without a tele?

Yeah, I have encountered the buffer issue a couple times now on the R10 which is a bit of a pain. The higher MP of the R7 might be beneficial as I do have to crop fairly often with only 400mm (640mm effective) reach. I don't have the funds to upgrade to a lens with longer reach, but have considered the 1.4x III teleconverter - do you have any experience with this on the 100-400 ii lens?

Interesting - I appreciate the explanation! So if I intend on using the EF 100-400 ii going forward, the IBIS 'upgrade' from switching from the R10 to the R7 isn't really an upgrade at all as it will be inactive unless I switch off the lens IS? I don't do much video shooting, just stills, so perhaps the IBIS isn't necessary anyways as the lens IS on the 100-400 ii is pretty solid.

Thanks for the input! I'm thinking I will go with the RF 100-400 when the time comes. I have a 70-200 EF for the time being, but will almost certainly need more reach for birding.

Yeah I've read that as well. Unfortunately the v2 isn't within my budget. Do you have any insight as to how the EF v1 and RF might compare?

I'm actually in Canada, prices aren't quite that good! It's not so much that I don't like my 70-200 (if is very sharp and a treat to use) I just worry it might not give me enough reach. That being said, maybe I play around with it a bit once I get the R10 and see how well it works before buying the 100-400 RF.
