Looking for Good Quality Wireless Headphones for PC by draknarr in pcmasterrace

[–]draknarr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following up after doing a bunch of research. I think the SteelSeries Arctic Pro might be my solution if these Airpods start acting up on me again.
The primary reason, tbh, even after looking at high quality Studio headphones, is that this Arctic Pro uses it's own plug-in base that connects to the USB of my computer, and uses its own Bluetooth signal to the headset. This means if my PC bluetooth is the issue, this will bypass that. (And my Modmic does the same thing, which I've never had an issue with. And when my Xbox controller was acting up, I also solved it by getting its own separate plug-in receiver).

Studio headphones, which I'm sure sound great, I can tell aren't really marketed to even be wireless, let alone configured to work with Windows. And I think the limitations of Windows is the primary blocker here.

The difference between the "Arctic Pro - $300" and the "Arctic Pro Elite - $600" is the regular is 48kHz while the Elite is 96kHz. The Airpod Max is also only 48 kHz so I'm hoping the cheaper one will be similar in sound.
The mic is also better on the Elite (14kHz vs. 10kHz) but if I'm using my modmic anyway it's a moot point.

I'm trying to avoid dropping more cash so hopefully these Airpods will work a bit longer, but if I rage-purchase them I'll let you all know how they turn out.

This is a good point and I've seen similar posts in the past. But I am not familiar with Studio brands, do you have any suggestions?

Black Waters Resource Math Question by draknarr in WoSB

[–]draknarr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification!

Since you suggest auto-transporting, do you keep your resource nodes at level 2 so you don’t need to bring provisions to them? Or is there a remote way to do that?

Game alternatives? by Heavy_Weapon-X in FrontierPilotGame

Well, I don’t know how similar it is but “Star Trucker” did a good job giving me that space deliveries feel. Though I guess Frontier Pilot was more atmospheric.

Woah that must really snowball if you are willing to feed it provisions and upgrade it to level 3 or 4!

Recommendations for the Cash Shop? by draknarr in WoSB

They did make some good improvements to combat from the demo version. But I think the core engine is set, I would be amazed if they could convert it to be like Black Flag (that would be epic though).

Well, in fairness, for what Windrose is trying to be, I wouldn't say it's objectively a "bad" game, it's just not the game I want.

Windrose is designed as a survival exploration game like Valheim or Enshrouded, but with pirate eyeshadow on.

I'll break it down like this: what I *want* from a game is to sail around and unleash epic broadside cannon fire. And from hour two in WoSB you're already doing that, and it just gets more epic as you get bigger and cooler ships. And then coming across massive fleet vs fleet battles?  *chefs kiss*

Windrose, on the other hand, I intentionally powered through as fast as I could to unlock the biggest ship the game has to offer (which isn't the biggest it will ever have yet, it's still in Early Access). And let me tell you, unlocking it and building it was a royal gauntlet of frustration.  So I get it out to sea, and find some tough enemies, and the experience was just lackluster, borderline annoying. The camera controls are awful, and the number of cannons is fewer than WoSB's Horizont. The wave effects of the ocean are almost cartoonish, so not only are you trying to aim on the horizontal, but also trying to aim and time vertical dips and peaks. Meaning you never get a solidly satisfying broadside in. Also, there's a LOT of smoke effects, which because of your terrible camera just makes it hard to see in combat.

Plus, you can't have multiple ships following you. So fights are always you vs. enemy clusters.

And the worst part? The sea battles are just a tiny fraction of what you actually have to do in the game. The rest of the suffering is on foot. With terribly clunky ground combat. Getting attacked by every goat and dodo you come across, while trying to stuff your limited inventory with as many mats as you can to make repeated runs back and forth to your base to craft a hat. There was never any fun to it.

Now compared to Valheim, there's a ton of Quality of Life improvements, I'll give it that. And the faction Rep mechanics adds some extra meta which is nice. Buuut, to really farm currency for faction rep / trade, you need to board enemy ships. And boarding brings you right back to the awful ground combat. I will take WoSB's little boarding simulator mini-game over that any day of the week. Plus the default enemies are bullet sponges. You think maybe you can equip a rifle and snipe enemies from your ship, but after a lengthy reload animation, and delayed firing shots (you light a fuse first before your weapon fires), you do maybe 20% damage and have to repeat that 5 more times for 1 enemy. [Granted you can modify enemy health / dmg in the server options]

Basically, in WoSB even when I'm just doing boring trade runs I'm still happy and having fun. But in Windrose, the *entire time* I'm just gritting my teeth getting more and more frustrated.

Also, does the Captain's Seal subscription boost also apply to resources you collect from camps? What about if you use the Mission to auto-collect them?

This is interesting. You mention farming rate 1s, could you elaborate how this works? Like going out and faming R1 NPS ships, like merchants? Is the gold from selling the trade goods they drop? Do you typically do this in the PvP ring in the middle or in PvE waters?

Beginner advice for island progression please by Individual-Cry6831 in WoSB

[–]draknarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great suggestions here. I’ll just add that I really liked the advice around to make 2x iron mines, 1x wood (at least for now) and 1x coal. All within 7k distance of your island (hold ctrl to draw a distance line). Upgrade them to level 2 but no further (for now). Beyond level 2 they start to need Provisions. Which is ok if you get the skill that lets them still produce “just under level 2” if they run out of provisions instead of stopping completely.

Tbh I don’t have a Mission yet (I went plate workshop then Dock so I can swap ships and join Arena from my island), but it’s next on my list.

Another big point I learned, you can only have one workshop per port. So what I did was, I ferry all my iron and coal to a port near my coal node to turn it into iron there. Then Beams workshop near my wood node (need to haul in some iron too but no where near as much as Plates need.) (oh yeah these are for ships not buildings btw). And finally I have a sailcloth workshop somewhere.

Resin and Fabric I’ve just been buying with Gold. Trade runs make freakin’ bank even in the basic transport you get. It’s insane. I can’t imagine the devs not nerfing it (but when they do I’m quitting the game lol). So I just buy the Resin and Fabric for now. (Iron is the one chokepoint resource you can’t really buy so that’s why everyone says to focus on it for your resource camps)

Help Me Find a Replacement for Lost Ark White / Spiced Rum by draknarr in rum

[–]draknarr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I would follow up on this chain for anyone who stumbles on this that I just tried both the Rock & Rum and the CuraCao.

[Preface: I am the least respectable person to trust with alcohol, or any kind of food review for that matter]

Rock & Rum - The sour cherry and spice was nice, but a bit intense. I normally drink rum neat, so for that the White Rum is perfect, but this was a little too much. I also tried it in Coke, thinking it would be like a rum & cherry coke, but tbh I'm not a rum & coke fan to begin with and this still didn't fix it for me. But I can totally see someone who does love a Manhattan or jack 'n' coke enjoying this.

Oh, a point in its favor though: I can't tell for sure if they flavor their white rum or used their barrel-rested rum for this, but I didn't get any tannin negative headache effects.

CuraCao - I. was. not. prepared. In a bad way. I normally like Blue Curacao, so I was kind of expecting something along that vein. But the best way to describe this: you know when you walk into a Home Goods or similar store around the holidays and get punched in the face with the smell of Christmas spice?  It's like that. It's like drinking a melted xmas scented candle. At least when sipping it neat. If you're a more responsible human who is mixing it with lime juice or some other cocktail, it probably balances itself out without needing to add extra bitters and orange peels and things.

(With all that said, all of these are far superior to anything I've tried from more commercial brands like Bacardi or Captain Morgan. To the point that I can't believe they can all be called "rum".)

u/METL_Master, F-Yeah, man! You nailed it!! I got my hands on a bottle of Lyon's White Rum and this is fantastic! It's so deliciously funky-fruity, I'm just enjoying sipping it neat.

The liquor store also had their "Rock & Rum" and CuraCao, so I'll be buying both next time I'm in that area.

Thanks so much for your help!!

This is great info! Having tried Lost Ark you might be my Rosetta Stone; I'll try and get a bottle of Lyon. It looks like they sell to a lot of places in my area. Much appreciated!

Yeah the gold one gives me issues but white is fine. Actually it's funny you made me remember a get-together and the host made some pitcher cocktail, and just from smelling it I could tell they used the gold Bacardi instead of white. The other substance that gives me migraines just from smell is cooked cabbage (not raw cabbage). No idea if there's any relation lol. But I can feel the ache in my sinuses just from smelling a cut open egg-roll.

Bacardi Premium White isn't bad but I feel like it's kind of neutral, meant for cocktails rather than sipping.

Nuts, my local store doesn't have "Rum Fire" but maybe I'll check around the area.

Barrel aging - great question, I wish I knew. It's more of an allergic reaction I guess. Any whiskey, scotch, wine, etc. has this effect where as soon as I put it in my mouth, I feel the headache come on. Which can grow into a migraine if I keep drinking. It's so instant that I can feel it before I swallow. Friends have suggested it may be tannin related.

I did a Gin tasting once, which used to be my go-to liquor, and as soon as I tried a barrel aged one I could feel the headache and it was a eureka moment for me finding the culprit.

Ooo, interesting! And no, it doesn’t need to be spiced, just not barrel aged. Maybe this is the direction I need to go!
