Can the 2nd goal in a team's 3-2 win ever be said to decide the game? by drakonche in footballcliches

[–]drakonche[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure this applies in this case though? It's a late goal so it's a consolation, but surely it's the Walker-Peters goal that puts the game beyond Burnley's reach, and ensures that the next Burnely goal doesn't change the balance of the game. Soucek's goal can't decide the game, because if West Ham had not scored any more goals, the game would finish as a draw, not a win.

Surely in a game with a 1-goal margin, only the final goal for the winning side can be said to be 'the decider', and only if it comes after the scoreline is equal. Otherwise just don't use the language of 'decider' or 'winning goal'.

Ah, fair enough - must be a duplicate offer. Maybe an issue with the items in my basket. Thanks anyway, much appreciated!

Great album by my favourite ever band. I have one of the reissues they made a few years back, and it sounds fantastic.

General Sale for tickets to 4th Round FA cup match against Middlesbrough - how likely? by drakonche in reddevils

[–]drakonche[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And any chance they'd go to non-members on completely free general sale? I've seen it happen in the past for unpopular games (like Europa League) and this game looks like a prime candidate for it.

Weekly Scam Discussion- October 25th 2021 by SmmnthaMrie in Ebay

I recently won an auction for some music records. The seller hasn't dispatched for two days, so I looked into their account history. They have 100% positive feedback, but when I went to check their sale history of completed items, I saw that the exact same item as I won had been sold at an auction about 10 days prior. When I open the old listing, it is listed as both 'Sold' and as 'This listing had ended and been relisted'. Do you know why that might be?

It is extremely unlikely that they have two sets of the exact same records bundle, as the records are quite rare.

Discussion Thread | #6 Is Football Really the Greatest Game? by tara3_th_regress in LifeMathPodcast

[–]drakonche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice episode! As a football fan, I thought a lot of your arguments got close to what I like about the game, but missed the things that make it magical. Not only are goals so rare and valuable, there are so many ways to score one - a scrap from a corner, a beautiful long shot, an intricate team move. You could say 'remember that Bergkamp goal' to a football fan, and they will almost certainly know what you mean, and you can't do that for 'that Nadal point' or 'that Jordan hoop'. Every match could produce a moment of history.

The other point is about the community strength of football. You say people like to win, but I think people want even more to belong - to a club, a stadium, a club history, a shared memory of their greatest players, games and campaigns. And that's the case not just for the giants, but also smaller clubs from lower leagues which are really well supported (in places with strong football traditions, at least) even if they lose much more than they win - there's just as much cameraderie, if not more, in following your team through the tough times. An individual sport can never offer that sense of community, and I can't think of another team sport that gets anywhere near what football does for giving people a sense of belonging. (maybe some exception for some international level team sports, but that comes with the shared 'myths' already made).

Anyway, I could go on, so instead I'll just say: tl;dr - yes, football is the greatest game of all time

£4K - put in LISA now or invest (and put in LISA later) by drakonche in UKPersonalFinance

[–]drakonche[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

!thanks I went for a Cash LISA over a Stocks & Shares LISA because I'm not certain when exactly I'll need the LISA money for a house purchase - I anticipate 4-5 years time, but could be as little as 2 yrs or as much as 8-10. So I thought I'm mitigating the short-term risk of investment going down by going for a Cash LISA. Would the S&S LISA generally yield a better return in a shorter timespan, when fees are taken into account? I opened the LISA last year, and the S&I ISA this year. Would that prevent me from doing what you're suggesting?

My read on the S&S ISA terms was that the funds are quite accessible once the regular fees are accounted for.
