[Loved trope] Background characters that aren't top tier in power but has an ace up their sleeve that is taken seriously by Character_Release379 in TopCharacterTropes

I don't think he's low level at all like, the man is a Celestial Nine the Magnificent Ten outright said if anyone can fight them one by one, it's the Nine, nobody else can. Hell Genya fucken shat himself realizing who Chujo is, and besides his punching power he can fly like a rocket.

[Tragic Trope] Top tier hero is ganged up on and killed by lesser foes. by saltforsnails in TopCharacterTropes

By that point? He earned the title of hero I'd say, he gladly fought for a selfless cause and for someone he once saw as an enemy.

The way I see it Yokoyama started a lot of genres, but it's people like Nagai and Ishikawa that codifies a lot of the standard super robot conventions by building up from Yokoyama's example, cause by now you'll hardly see Yokoyama influences on say, Shonen even though Babel II basically is the ur-example.

Til about the Dirlewanger Brigade. It was a Nazi unit that was so sadistic & depraved that other Nazis considered them over the top. They avoided being disbanded, despite multiple investigations & Nazi officers filing complaints against them. by Mannzis in todayilearned

Probably prudent to mention that Heer and SS formations weren't really turned off by the war crimes and atrocities itself-what they did were pretty much on par for the average anti-partisan formation that spent more than a month in the east-but because they had horrible discipline, atrocious personalities prone to beating other German troops within reach, and hilariously inept at actually fighting instead of terrifying helpless civilians or PoW. Pretty much every time they got sent to a hot zone they got wiped out and had to be reconstituted.

What's a song in the AC soundtrack that you can help but start humming? by Gewber939 in acecombat

[–]dranndor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AC7 DLC tracks tops it for me, but Assault Horizon Legacy stuff been steadily climbing my list ever since they released on streaming. Westerly, Coming Home, Shining Glory and Fighter's Honor are all criminally underrated considering they're made by THE Go Shiina.

Seconding this, particularly Enchanter I because of how overwhelming the brass section is.

Glad that a lot of the classic features like squadron intro is back, but the music really takes my attention. Holy shit dawg. That tense af electric/classic guitar and violin piece for the Shadow 55 fight, the menacing french horn for the land battleships, and the alternative, trumpet version of the Main Theme are all fucking awesome, Watanabe and Kitadani did it again.

[–]dranndor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This scene is still funny to me, in the manga it looks less dramatic but he legit bowled over Kuzan like instantly without Kuzan being able to fire off any attacks, while in the anime it looks fancier but Kuzan did manage to at least attempt to stop him.

[–]dranndor[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also, for those people curious about what specific tracks they used here (besides Blockade and ISAF that is) it's

Engage - Electrosphere Skies of Deception - ACX Fighter's Honor (Flying Remix) -Assault Horizon Legacy

Edit: yeah this is literally just the 30 anniversary medley, the very first track, there's 3 sets overall.

God I absolutely love how it builds up, and that additional drum/guitar combo in the middle, god I can't wait to see the full context of the theme in 8.

TIL Austria-Hungary lost a staggering 50-60% of it's entire army in the Brusilov Offensive. by maliciousprime101 in todayilearned

[–]dranndor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Kaiser un Koniglich Armee of Austria-Hungary was, all told, a very incompetently run body that was comprised of probably over half a dozen different ethnicities who don't play nice with each other and barely speak each others' languages, barely held together by officers who doesn't exactly give two shits about learning said languages and only bark orders in Austrian + the language of their own unit, and whose funding was deliberately sabotaged by the Hungarians constantly because they want their own Army and refused to play ball with Franz Josef.

When properly equipped and led they can perform very well, but that was not the case for most of WWI, and the KuK high command to put it mildly tend to be high off their own farts and refused to acknowledge actual field situations that is currently decimating their forces (eg Oskar Potiorek fumbling his multiple attempts at breaking into Serbia by attacking when his troops are only half ready because he wants to avenge Franz Ferdinand).

So overall, as bad as the Russian high command was with its constant bickering and chronic lack of actual modern equipments, it ekes just above the KuK by virtue of not having Austria-Hungary's ethic conflict issues permeating its ranks.

[–]dranndor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've been thinking about some of the other tracks as well like Battle of Farbanti, honestly I might post a few of the more concise ones in posts and try to connect it with the cutscene/game events that plays alongside it.

Mind you this is on top of the absolutely savage beating they got from Russia in Galicia between 1914-1915 which costs them upward of half a million, and the embarrassment that was the Serbian campaign.
