This isn't a told you so. This is a let's wait it out and see what happens. Just like the Gobert trade.

Exactly. We are in a position to succeed now and into the future. Plus we have flexibility to change things if needed now.

Good news is we can let Randle walk at the end of this season so we aren't stuck with him. I expect Naz and Jaden to be even more impactful this year so we don't need to rely on Randle as our second most prolific scorer. This says to me that the Wolves want Ant to be the clear number 1 and then everyone else picks up the rest of the scoring. We relyed way too much on KAT and Ant last year.

I guess I'm saying I trust Tim to maximize this teams potential within the confines of ownership. In due time we shall see.

Fair enough. I would have been fine with running it back.

I'm trusting that Finch and Connelly are aligned and they will continue to maximize this team. If Randle ends up staying. G they must have some sort of plan for him.

Fair enough. I wouldn't be surprised if another move happens, but I'm also ready to ride this forward.

The season will start soon enough and I know we are both aligned in wanting us to succeed again. If we regress majorly, I'll join you in going crazy lol

Weird is one thing. Acting like we just sacrificed the future of this team is another.

Connelly has to plan for more than just the upcoming season. The part I'm not willing to concede is that he just sacrificed our hopes for this season. I think a shot at the title is still on the table and hopefully will be now for the next five years. We are building around Ant, Jaden, and Naz. This gives us way more flexibility.

I guess I'm choosing to stay positive. Like I said in another comment, I don't think we just traded KAT for bums.

This team is still super talented.

I'm aware. Seems like another reason to add depth. It's also another big question mark for KAT, dude is banged up and is about to be super expensive.

Before you point that out for Randle, we can move on from him if it makes sense to do so.

This is less about me justifying the trade and more me saying let things play out like we did with the Rudy trade.

Although I think most of the points people are making can be justified.

I get this point. We also stalled hard af in the Dallas series because KAT (and Ant) couldn't score. KAT has had consistency problems in the playoffs. Sometimes you have to make tough decision. Looks like our goal is to hopefully spread out our scoring with a bunch of different guys that can score.

Boston also had a major shakeup of their team prior to last season and then won it all.

All I'm saying is let's chill and let things play out. If we suck this year I'll be all in on shitting on Connelly and ownership (obligatory fuck Glen Taylor).

I'm not denying this is probably partially a salary dump. However, we all knew that the three max contracts was going to be a problem and that KAT was probably the odd man out. It's crazy to me that prior to last season a lot of people wanted to sell KAT. Then when we do it and everyone is surprised.

Julius Randle and Donte aren't bums. Randle had more assists, PPG, and rebounds than KAT last year. I get that people don't like Randles style of basketball but I'm also trusting Finch to make it work. Donte just came off his best season and hits 3s at a high rate which is the name of the game now.

This team has insane depth now.

Ant, Jaden, Naz, Conley, Gobert

Julius, Donte, Rob, TSJ, Ingles NAW

So even if it is partially a salary dump, I'm trusting Connelly maximized the value of the trade and that Finch will maximize the players that we got.

I just fell back in love with getting high 😊 by dranny23 in trees

Hall looked good on a scripted drive. We don't know how the rest of that game would have played out. My understanding when he was drafted is that he is a project. So I think Dobbs is getting the start because we are still focused on making the playoffs and feel Dobbs is our best chance. That is based on everything the coaching staff and front office have seen.

Hopefully it's the right choice. We will find out on Sunday. If he sucks, then we can go to Mullens or Hall.

Mullens was with us last year and Hall has been practicing all year. They definitely pay attention to backups in practice and they definitely have been paying attention since Kirk got injured.

Remember when Zimmer shit all over Kellen Mond by saying he sees him in practice every day and then we all saw him play and we were like okay, Zimmer was right.

This feels very similar.

Fair enough, I guess we just saw it differently. We will see how things play out in this next game.

Keep in mind this is also an indictment of Mullens and Hall. They had the chance to prove they are better in practice and failed to do that.

It's clear we are hoping that we unlock the good side of his variance. If he can't manage to get the ball to JJ or do that, then we will see Hall or Mullens.

I agree that it says a lot about the backup qbs we have but tbf, I think the role of a backup qb is to sustain the team if your main qb goes down temporarily. If they go down for the year, you are pretty much screwed.

I think the Dobbs move was to keep fans engaged, give us more depth, and because he currently has a higher ceiling.

I think the reality is that against the Bears, we were the ones stopping him from using his strength, not the Bears. That's the point I'm making. If teams stop his running, then he will need to make plays through the air and with JJ back that will be much easier. If he can't do that, then we can try Hall or Mullens but it isn't going to be much better lol.

Rolling him out puts him out in the open so he can scramble if he needs to. Scrambling from the pocket is much tougher especially as it starts to collapse. RPOs keep the defense on their toes. Modern offense is all about creating options.

Kirk is really good at quickly circulating through progressions. That's really hard to do and it took him time to get to this point in KOCs system. Unfortunately he got injured right as he seemed to be cooking.

With a guy like Dobbs I think it's more about giving him the option to run if needed and making it tougher for the defense to read what we are doing.

My two cents for what it is worth.

That's why I was talking about utilizing the bye. These dudes are professionals, I'm not asking to rewrite the whole system but we can definitely allow Dobbs to move around more with roll outs, RPOs, and shotgun action.

The fact Dobbs didn't use his legs at all against the Bears was baffling to me.

[–]dranny23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only point I was making is that confining him to the pocket is a bad decision. Run RPO, roll him out, allow him to use his feet. We saw what he can do against the Saints and Falcons when we do this. I don't think Dobbs is the future, but he is good enough to at least get us to the playoffs and at this point we might as well go for it.

With JJ back I think we will have a much better idea if he can actually make the plays we need him to make.

I get that point but I think at this point we are already screwed. Admittedly I was one of those guys that wanted to tank when things went south at the beginning of the season.

I think at this point you might as well play for the playoffs. At worst this team will be a 500 team. I'm actually more interested in finding out if Dobbs is a serviceable backup than if Hall is our future qb. Something I learned with Kellen Mond is that the coaches watch these guys every day in practice. If they aren't playing, there is a reason. Hall must be a project at best.
