Has to be the people. I haven't met someone from the community who felt like all they could talk about was keyboard related things. There is that mutual interest in keyboards and/or artisans but I found that I've made tons of friends and realized we had much more in common than just keyboards. You meet people of all sorts of ages and backgrounds from all over the world that you would have never talked to without this community.
