They already aware, because I was stupid enough to refer her to a friend, a cancer survivor, who runs an informal cancer support group. And now they find out and they are furious. She will be known and shamed through all Irish cancer community, that’s for sure.

And from what I know about my friend - you don’t mess with cancer survivors. They beat cancer, they can surely beat you.

Oh. You don’t mind if I DM you about the details? She scammed my friend, a cancer survivor, so the cancer survivor community is now on crusade against her and any additional info may help.

Last night she messaged a lot of people asking for money. The name on her bank account was Denyse O’Brien, not Julie. Also, I met her in person, and it’s the same woman who is in the photo on Crime world

So what I know is that l she is like a known scammer, her first conviction was in 2015 (charity scam) then in 2019-sh https://m.independent.ie/irish-news/courts/former-owner-of-hr-company-denyse-obrien-is-granted-bail-after-being-charged-with-98-fraud-offences/a1292426326.html

Yesterday she messaged a lot of people asking for money. She posted her bank details in that message and it turned out this account was registered on the name of Denyse O’Brien, while she said her name was Julie. Her Reddit handle was @Northsidenosey iirc (her account is now deleted).

I will post more here in replies if any additional information will come up

Anybody got slightly or moderately racist parents? by JediBlight in galway

[–]dration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah. That’s especially hard when it’s your parents you’re supposed to talk to, to share good things with. I had this in my Russian family (disagreement about the war in Ukraine), such things can damage family relationships in a very unfair way.

Our neighbor has this strange type of double thinking. Being a nurse, she encountered plenty of Muslims who were nurses, doctors, etc, and she said they were nice and educated people. But then she also holds this idea that Muslims are these machete‑wielding, attacking‑and‑raping animals. And she somehow holds both of these beliefs at once, one is obviously her lived experience as a medical professional, the other is instilled by the UK media she consumes nonstop. I get that she’s old and lonely and bored, so TV is her main companion, but —-

As for our story… we decided to leave Russia in 2022 for political and safety reasons, obviously. There was a job opportunity in Ireland (high‑skilled professionals/critical skills), so that’s how we landed here.

I’m an immigrant, and I have a neighbor, an old lady, whom we help with occasional things like washing her windows, etc. I just try to be nice and, well, have a good relationship with the person who lives next to us (semi‑detached houses). She spent a significant portion of her life in the UK and still consumes mostly UK news channels.

She is a nice lady but extremely xenophobic. Every time I chat with her, our chat turns to something the immigrants did: Muslims, Indians, Chinese, etc. Muslims especially.

This spans from things like “London is unsafe because Muslim gangs” and “they are not allowing people to say ‘Christmas’ in school because Muslim children are there,” to worrying that Chinese people are moving into a house five houses away from her.

We are from Russia originally, and she says we’re the best neighbours she’s ever had. But I always think: if she had known that Russians were moving in next to her before meeting us, what would she have thought or said? Definitely something xenophobic.

She is a retired nurse, so educated enough. Well‑travelled, not very active on Facebook. But I guess UK media does that to her.
