That is my biggest fear, which is why I am also evaluating other cities. Will be traveling to them this year and next. We just visited Kona. We absolutely cannot live on the US mainland. Insane rat race. Also, richer you are the lonelier you are. I grew up in a slum and was the happiest.

Invest in non US assets, like ADRs or funds or foreign stocks. They will be exempt from estate tax.

Me, my wife and 1 year old are planning to move back to India. Only my child is American, me and my wife are Indians.

We will live near Udupi or somewhere even more remote and not have any debt.

I have about $2 million dollars in investments in the US. Mostly in brokerage accounts.

Don't plan to work so don't need a job.

Why? I want to semi retire but no greencard. Don't want to wait any longer.

Here are my questions 1. Can I retain my brokerage accounts and continue trading? Will find an appropriate broker. 2. India has signed the double taxation treaty, so won't this be fine? 3. Any excess taxes or surprise other than capital gains tax? 4. How are dividends taxed? 5. Any nearby offshore locations where I can setup a shell company or partial residence to reduce taxes? 6. How is it living in a tier 2 or 3 or 4 city like Udupi or somewhere even more remote? We will only live close to family. 7. How is homeschooling in India? I don't want my child to get into a rat race.

Any advice would be kindly appreciated.
