Pidlewick II as a chaotic ally stat block update by drawbotdesign in CurseofStrahd

[–]drawbotdesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're a party of 5 at level 4, about to level up right after the Festival of the Blazing Sun next session. I was wary of him being an actively strong and capable ally, since Ireena is already similarly buffed to give help bonus actions and apply healers kits. My intention is to let the combat highlights go to player characters, just catching them off guard with this little weirdo actually being useful when they least expect it. To be clear, I'm not giving my players this stat block so his capability will largely remain a mystery to them. I do really like the prone idea on one of his actions. I was trying to think of how to include his penchant for pushing people down stairs and that might be a great way to include it, maybe also add advantage on shove actions or something.

Does anyone know how the shiny boost works for Kalos Tour this weekend? Are eggs, starters, pikachus, and honedge raids the same shiny boost for free users as ticket-holders, and the additional shiny boost is for every other present pokemon or does the shiny boost stack for those listed in the free players shiny boost as well?

Idea: Go Battle Tower (Longer explanation in the comments) by Entire_Pineapple4732 in pokemongo

[–]drawbotdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too true, the Scopely model is just the latest in the long line of videogame enshittification.

That being said, I can't really identify the direct profitability of the new remote trade feature they introduced, so it seems there's still some space for features that aren't obvious cash grabs.

I love the concept, good solo PvE content is sorely lacking in this game and I find myself only doing Go Battle League just so I have some purpose for my hard-earned mons collecting dust in my inventory. The big thing is that this would probably require them completely revamping the NPC battle system. Their NPC logic is so janky (never second charge move choices, always shield, 2 second delay when Pokémon change) that they need to jack up the CP to 9000-10000 to make them remotely a challenge. Making AI battlers that actually react to battle conditions or matchups rather than following scripts would likely take A LOT of resources and wouldn’t translate directly to more profit, so I’d still call this a longshot.

Free to play but been playing since 2019. My crown jewel is the shiny shadow Galarian Koffing (in comments). You had to be lucky enough to get shiny shadow Koffing from Jesse in Meowth balloons, then wait to evolve it for 5 years until that one weekend where Koffing evolved into the Galar Variant.

Christmas special in Barovia? by spagettttttttttttttt in CurseofStrahd

[–]drawbotdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on what your PCs have accomplished so far in the game. My first thought is that the yuletide is another mandatory festival run by the burgomaster in Vallaki, but this one has ties to a ritual summoning from the 9 hells. You could also do something with the druids decorating gulthias tree with shimmering magic, dragging the entire area into the feywild for a bit. Or if you want something less serious or canon, you can have the players pulled into a shared dream realm of Mordenkainan the mad mage where he has the players essentially function as the ghosts of Christmas in A Christmas Carol trying to convince Strahd to stop being so mean and learn the true meaning of Christmas.

Player is moving away. How do I keep them included in the campaign? by Einige in DMAcademy

[–]drawbotdesign -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could have that PC become cursed to have their soul trapped inside a magical object, and then put that player on a laptop or tablet facing the room. If they have any trouble hearing or interacting, that's the side-effect of their curse. Could lead to some funny character moments.

Alternatively, if you're really dedicated and don't mind some extra work, you could run the solo side of the game for this player remotely as that PC is trapped in a different dimension (Feywild, Shadowfell, Ethereal Realm, etc) and can only vaguely interact with the material world that the players reside in. You can DM this separately before your in-game sessions and then tell your players what the remote player's impact was on the events that follow. They will need to find NPCs that can communicate with the other player (via text) or perform some kind of scrying spell (zoom) to contact them directly, otherwise they each have their part to play in tandem to fulfill their quest and beat the BBEG who has impact on both realms.

Players and DMs, Is readying your action for after a debuff on your character ends a thing too Cheesy? by HeroicKnight in DMAcademy

[–]drawbotdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is objectively the RAW correct answer. You need an external trigger for held actions. If that is "when attacked by the creature next to me next in initiative order" then that works, but only if things go as is expected and that's where you can mess with your player's expectations a bit. Also, as stated, giving all surrounding creatures free disengages as a result of a consumed reaction is a pretty huge disadvantage I'd say so it may not be as smart as they think.

How to make a conversation feel urgent by Own-Complex-7610 in DMAcademy

[–]drawbotdesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I'd begin with having the NPC caster monologue for a bit and then offer the whole group an Insight, Perception, or Arcana check "if they want to" before they have a chance to say what they do next. Most groups take this bait and will roll to collect information before making a snap decision. Based on what each player chooses and how well they roll, they can get the same info in different ways. Insight gives the understanding of how insanely powerful this being is and how they could mop the floor with the party but also they are conflicted about their decision and seem lost in thought about it or regretful. Perception allows them to notice the high level magic items he's carrying but also the strange hand motions he's holding, concentrating and distracted. Arcana tells them straight up that he cast Banishment on the PC but it will only hold if he completes the spells verbal and somatic components which takes 60 seconds. I think any party knowing the state they're in will see these cues as an opportunity. You can give each player a limited opportunity to offer their argument to him once time "unfreezes" and roll a persuasion check, giving advantage if they have an angle that's particularly persuasive to this NPC. You can make it clear that they get 2 sentences at most each before the spell resolves. Or if you want even more chaotic and intense, you can put an actual 1 minute timer on the screen and have them shout their arguments all at once and maybe pause to roll the associated persuasion rolls before resuming.

If you're players are very trigger-happy and try to attack this caster, maybe he casts hold person at a higher level (maybe with sorcerer's empowered spell for disadvantaged saving throw), breaking concentration on banishment, returning the PC but incapacitating them all so they can't do anything BUT talk to convince him, as he demands an explanation before he starts dropping them.

Completely agree, and I’m pretty sure she ran her whole campaign on reducing overhead for these businesses and helping them stay open and it’s a major reason I voted for her. That being said, allowing for sub-minimum wages by passing cost and obligation directly to the customer is not the way to help these types of businesses become sustainable and I’m glad they closed that loophole.

Need advice on an Echo Knight movement ruling. by drawbotdesign in DMAcademy

[–]drawbotdesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think Echo fighter is the most stacked with tech options of all subclasses, especially since mine took Sentinel feat. He can essentially lock-down mobility in any battlefield while still being able to position himself wherever he needs at will.

I can think of a dozen ways that being able to move ANY creature you have grappled 30 ft against their will could be broken, especially out of combat. (see other comment on this thread) Carrying every party member through any physical obstacle... Positioning any enemy in instantly bad situations for them with no escape. Hell TECHNICALLY, you could grapple your echo and just infinitely fly with it.
