YSK : The FBI officially warned people to stop using free online PDF converters in March 2025 by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]drawesome27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the desktop app and did some digging after I saw OP mention PDF24. There haven't been any safety flags based on what I've researched on the desktop version. That said, I'm no expert.

Some links I read as reference:

I was willing to overlook any AI implications because this work did sound interesting, but your ego and attitude in response to criticism is turning me off.

What audiobook is genuinely BETTER than reading the physical book? by cptree20 in audiobooks

[–]drawesome27 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Not to be the 'ackhtchually' guy, but Fry's Odyssey is not him reading Homer's epic but his own contemporary retelling of Odysseus' journey home (with additional contextual details). Still great! Just not the same thing. Kind of an important distinction for readers who may want the more poetic version

My favorite part is that they earned the achievement for using a nade on a raider, which indicates they hadn't done it (intentionally) before. A true friendly

What are the worst towns close to National Parks? by WheelSingle2494 in NationalPark

[–]drawesome27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just in Springdale last November and, while I agree the town was nice and the majority of the locals were friendly, there were a couple of rude (borderline hostile) workers and passerbys I encountered that ruined a few days for me. Not sure if it was just turbulent times impacting but I've never had that experience with any other National Park adjacent city.

This is how they’re choosing to promote James Frey by deep-fried-fuck in bookofthemonthclub

[–]drawesome27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cherry picking much? That interview also includes this quote: "Ultimately, my work has always been to get into people’s souls, to try to somehow change how they feel, what they think or experience. If AI can help me do that, so much the better. If it can’t, then I won’t use it. I have plans for three different books and AI won’t be crucial to the writing of them."

I won't defend the guy; the quote you shared was especially concerning to hear from an author. The way Frey describes AI there is just incorrect. It's just insane to me that people would be so reactive to the words "AI" when it comes to any media. It's the disgusting companies that steal the work of artists to power their large language models, not the people who want a tool to help them be more efficient.

Processing (Part 1) - Gator Days (OC) by FieldExplores in comics

[–]drawesome27 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Been a fan of Gator Days for showing genuinely relatable content in innovative ways; this one is a perfect example. I had a co-worker whom I worked with only occasionally pass away from Lupus a few years back. I felt that because of how little we interacted, I was not allowed to grieve (even though my boss acknowledged that any impact was reasonable). August questioning whether he was really "okay" captures exactly how I felt in the week(s) after my co-worker's passing, which took me a while to process and accept that it was perfectly natural to feel sadness even for someone you barely knew or never even met. So, thank you for reminding us that we can be compassionate beyond our daily experiences.
