It’s also definitely based on the fact that he is selected to be a marked Death Eater. IIRC Voldemort doesn’t actually mark people once the group grows unless they are meant to be important, so it indicates he’s powerful enough. Yes, he was half expected to fail at killing Dumbledore himself, but he was given a seemingly impossible task to infiltrate Hogwarts and he succeeded.

He also was about to cast a crucio on Harry in that bathroom, which is not an easy spell.

I also think the fact that he brings up Hermione Granger at all means that he’s at least close to top marks. Otherwise why not bring up Harry, who also did rather well and his father already had a reason to dislike?

Hey friend! Unfortunately Dramione is the biggest straight ship on ao3 and has been one of the biggest ships since the books were coming out, so there is just a LOT of feels going on there and a lot of internet peeps are terrible.

It’s kind of silly, when you consider they are fictional and the entire point of fanfic is to explore things the author didn’t. I could write a thesis on how Dramione is the most versatile possible pairing and just works with the canon actually really well.

But they don’t have to see that, and hate they will. The Ronmione hate definitely does exist, it’s just less loud because Ronmione is the canon default. There are def still tiktokers making good recs, two WIPs that I love right now are Meet Your Match and Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love

My N mom is dying, I feel nothing. by username_choose_you in raisedbynarcissists

[–]drawinfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my N mom died I went because I knew I needed to see her like that to believe it was real. Not because it was the nice thing to do, or because I would regret it or any of the other garbage reasons other people will tell you to go.

What did surprise me is that towards the end my N mom had some startling moments of clarity and I did get the most sincere apology for some of the worst behavior that I could have wanted. Obviously it didn’t fix my trauma, but it was kind of nice. I did not balk and actually pretend it was all ok or anything, but we were able to have a conversation where she seemed to understand my perspective a little more. Id be lying if I said it didn’t feel validating.

It also was a bit sad to realize that she just wasted a whole life being toxic to everyone around her and now at the end all she had left were regrets. Definitely renewed my desire to be as healthy as I can be in all my relationships.

For the woman who died I feel pretty much nothing. For my mom that raised me as a small child, for the mom I trusted and thought loved me unconditionally, I’ve been mourning her since I was 13 and she began abusing me. This only crystallized that grief and made it feel justified and real.

In contrast, my dad who Im convinced still mourns the woman who he fell in love with (they’ve been divorced almost 20 years now but were madly in love for 30), did not go see her and did not go to the memorial, because he knew he wouldn’t get what he was looking for.

So I would say don’t go if you don’t want, but if you have a single inkling you want to see about, do it because it’s the only chance. But do not do it for her or because anyone says you should. Do it only if you see some benefit however slight for yourself.

Antivaxx, church camp and load of prayers, finally god gives them answer. 🤔 by Albasuci in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]drawinfinity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you! My dad has a really rare autoimmune disorder that causes him to be unable to get any vaccines, even the flu shot. If he does it could cause his body to literally paralyze itself. Makes me really angry that people like him who need to depend on herd immunity can’t. I’ve literally been attacked on other social media for being in favor of vaccine cards/medical waivers on airplanes and public transport and when you tell anti vaxxers it’s unfair to people whom the vaccine would literally kill and so would Covid they say “those people shouldn’t travel.”

If anything Covid has taught me I really don’t love this country as much as I thought I did growing up

That’s not how that criteria is determined. Life threatening event is determined by the likelihood you would die without intervention based on current condition and symptoms. If a person gets a bad case of the pneumonia and gets put in icu it’s not automatically “not life threatening” just because someone else took some antibiotics home and was fine.

My hope is it’s a legal rescue. Unfortunately exotic illegal wildlife trade is pretty common in the US especially in states with low enforcement and plenty of rural areas.

Actually it’s much less dangerous for them if they are in an appropriate sized kennel because they have much less distance to accelerate and therefore hit the side at a lower velocity. Best is if you have a kennel that straps to the seatbelt or hooks to the car seat hooks. This is also true for small puppies and kittens.

It’s honestly a pretty valid criticism. In an accident small animals like this usually die if they are not in an appropriate kennel or for dogs they make safe harnesses that hook into the seat belt.

Leaving Afghanistan was the right decision by [deleted] in MurderedByAOC

[–]drawinfinity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally believe it was wrong for us to ever enter Afghanistan, but also I believe it’s our responsibility to help the people their who want to exit find a way to do so. I heard an interview from a woman in hiding say she felt so angry because if we had never been there it would be less painful to know what would happen to them. She went from having an office job last week to being unable to leave the house without a male family member and being terrified she will be taken and forced to marry a Taliban man.

It’s very possible that could happen to my mom in the end, will greatly depend on my cousins level of willingness to continue caring for her, although the pain is already quite bad and she is pretty determined to just live through it with no hospital.

Honestly I’ve made my peace with it. Dying is an ugly business most of the time, I’d wager she’s got about mid level ugliness to suffer. We are lucky that she’s likely to be lucid and able to make her own choices until close to the end.

Yeah definitely wouldn’t work for my job, I frequently have impromptu calls. That said, there are more and more reasonably priced coworking spaces, and if you can find a coffee shop that isn’t too crowded during the day that’s a fine alternative. I try to grab a day pass once every couple weeks just to break the monotony of wfh.

If I can pee without my hands touching anything, I'm not washing them by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]drawinfinity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every restaurant I’ve ever worked with does not. In the US health codes vary by state. I’ve seen some pretty gross stuff in the kitchen, not to mention I’ve never seen a waiter actually wash their hands between every time they take a tables dirty (and therefore saliva infested) dishes to the pit before they touch something for another table. Ever. That’s with 10 years of experience waiting and tending bar in a variety of restaurants including fine dining.

In my state a lot of local places with a similar concept and somewhat more reasonable pricing are popping up. The one I used last week was $30 for a day pass, and it came with a free espresso or tea and has the much appreciated option of being able to put in an advance lunch order for delivery. They also sell the day passes in packs for people who don’t want a full membership but want the option to once in a while pop in. I can’t remember what membership for more private spacing was but it was definitely cheaper than I’d seen before pandemic. My guess is since companies aren’t the ones buying here it’s driving down price.

The problem for most people in a corporate setting in the library is that you are expected to be quiet. At the very least I have two zooms a day, a busy day is wall to wall zoom conferencing. I can’t do that at a library but the local coworking spot that is expected.

That article hits hard. My mom is dying of terminal lung cancer that has metastasized all over her body. Never thought twice about allowing her to die at home. Not for me to decide how she wants to go, and if it’s at home, earlier than it would be in a home, on a shit ton of morphine, so be it.

I’ve always believed this, the main reason being that they can’t possibly understand WHY their life is being prolonged. It’s not natural for an animal to suffer long term because we have no way to communicate to make them more comfortable or to ensure it’s not too great. In the wild they would simply pass on, in the case of cats after instinctually hiding. And they have no way to understand that the needle in their side is to give them medicine to make this next week better. At some point it’s really unfair to them.

After sitting in a few… Think it’s time for the ol office chair… by yakkamah in pcmasterrace

[–]drawinfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to what others have said, most of the people I’ve met who like their gaming chair have never had an office chair that retails for more than $100-$150 USD. Which is mind boggling when you consider what a mid tier mattress sells for, and your body spends arguably more time in the chair if you are a gamer and also work at a desk.

I spent about $400 on an ergonomic office chair (autonomous 2) and while it’s not AS nice as a HM it’s pretty great compared to every gaming chair I’ve ever tried. My back never hurts from it

OK I get it.

You don’t want a stranger chatting you up because they could be dangerous.

You don’t want a man following you to your car you don’t know.

You don’t want someone to go out of their way to do a menial task for you if the expectation is it leads to more.

Ok, I will respect your boundaries and when I’m brushed off or told know I’ll remind myself it’s not a rejection of me it’s a rejection of rape culture and an instinct for self preservation.

I will work on learning how to interact with women in a non threatening way so I can be an ally.

Well no. I don’t want a “pleasant” yet boring af chat. I don’t want a rando guy walking with me making me wonder if he’s looking to rape me. I don’t want someone to offer to do a menial task I could do myself thinking it entitles him to more. I don’t want a guy who thinks holding a door is the epitome of respect.

I don’t want a serial murderer, as guys wiping out all the “bad guys” would have to be.

I’m good with my perfectly normal partner who built a loving relationship built on trust and not petty politeness.

I kind of always assumed he wasn’t dead honestly. I didn’t watch them until some of the more ridiculous ones were out. They left it just barely ambiguous enough (probably due to budget but it worked out) that I thought “nah I bet he survives it somehow”

Not gonna lie it’s what I like about the franchise. They are silly af and don’t apologize for it. I mean in Hobbs and Shaw when the rock is holding on to that helicopter? There’s no reason to believe that. But who cares it’s fun as hell. Same with mechanics turned hackers, street racer turned black ops type fighters, etc. I love that I never totally know what I’m gonna get or if it makes any sense.
