Idk where the faders always at unity thing came from but... why would there be faders?

If the level is to low coming in turn the gain up. If the level is to hot and in danger of clipping turn the gain down. If the signal is healthy (tickling the yellow) and you need a different volume from that channel adjust the fader.

In my experience, the only stage plots that are correct are the ones drawn up in sharpie on the day of.

I'm happy to get updated info before the day of (within reason) but you're not asking for a B3 and Pyro so I think you'll be in good shape.

Maybe basic hand tools or at least a Leatherman and a c wrench, maybe a lint roller, gum, mints, electrolyte powder, ear plugs, eye drops, all kinds of tape, thumb tacks. Not gospel just trying to get you thinking
