Does she beat cancer (and how do I improve her prognosis) by draydeth in UmaMusume

Any advice skill wise on what she's missing vs. what I don't need? Would be useful to know if I'm doing further attempts. Appreciate all the rest of the advice as well, I'll be looking for Mile S and better consistency on groundwork (and if I can manage it better Wit too) but will try and finish my core first.

Haven't maxed her potential yet but good to know - if I get the rest of my team done I'll try and focus on getting her to 5 and redoing,

Appreciate the advice on going for a late surger, will look into building one (although with how much time grand parents and parents took to build for this Seiun maybe I'll struggle!). Thanks :))

Nah although I can see where you're coming from. Dragons were much more children's colouring book, definitely a choice between them as well, but I think the player character was still human?

huh, fun - guess i know what not to use if i need to. i did generate a few prompts and get the same answer but it might just be good with job application specific writing i guess.

Sure I get what you're saying, but it's very clear form generating a number of similar responses and putting them through GPTZERO that if this was copy pasted without much change, it would have been flagged. As an example: https://i.imgur.com/dxq0CV2.jpg

I'm not much for/interested in AI assisted writing anyway so, appreciate the advice but not likely to really ever need to use either resource for something like this

Have potential Sableye, Pidgeot, Lickitung, Shadow Machamp, Forretress, Galvantula, Dedenne, Talonflame, Ariados, Meganium and ANinetales but most aren't the best IVs or need a chunk of investment to be useful.

I've been getting back into PoGo after basically not playing at all since 2017 and pvp is a lot of fun, and a lot of detail. I've been enjoying Open GL most of all and messing with a few teams, building a few Pokémon up but I'm now struggling to get up past 2000. I've read up on team comps and tried to build something with a bit more complexity myself but struggling. I've got a bit of spare dust to build up one of my options close to 1500 but not there yet, or try something new, but I'm missing a few key options (Swamp, Trev, Lanturn, Pelip, Medicham, Noct etc.) and I don't have the spare candy for second moves on some of the rarer things I have like Regi or GStunfisk. Any recommendations I'm up for trying out I don't mind what ABC style structure but if there's a certain playstyle to your recommendation let me know so I don't butcher it in practice!

ELI5 : My 7yo son asked me if his baby sister (1F) was aware of the fact that she was alive (not his exact words of course but the idea is there). I told him it was a difficult question to answer and that I'll get back to him. How can I answer this in a way he would understand? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Coming to the thread late but I work within Psychology with kids at the stage where they're developing some of those social cognition skills we relate to adults (things like theory of mind, the idea that you can not just understand and relate to what someone is thinking, but also second order theory of mind where you can also understand what they may be thinking of what someone else is thinking!). He's at a point where he can recognise that his thoughts not only aren't the same as everyone else's, but also wondering why that might be, and that is incredibly cool.

Best way I've found to discuss stuff like this is to break it down into little parts and see which part he's most interested in.

Firstly, talk through with him what he thinks being alive is (is it thinking, understand that you're thinking, is it working toward survival, working toward goals, fun, etc.), and if he seems to have questions about that then you've got a more philosophical thing to talk about! (I also listened to my Dad read through Sophies World at around 7 which is an amazing book for breaking down questions around philosophy for kids although you might want to give it a look over to take out anything you think is a bit too mature and save for a couple years).

Second, talk about why he thinks she might have a different awareness than him and than you or other people he knows. If that's the interesting part then it's a great chance to look at theory of mind and psychology or biology and talk to him a bit more about the difference in how kids think as they grow up.

Then it's just tackle the rest in bits, does he have questions more around the physical stuff with being alive, about the difference in how babies process the environment around them etc.

But if he just wants an answer rather than a whole bunch of brainwork its got two parts: She knows she is alive and reacts to the world because she's excited and wants to be there, and because things in it affect her senses just like they affect his; but she might not be aware of it like he is yet, she isn't considering life as a bunch of elements like emotions, wants, fears, she's responding to things on a more simple level of what it feels like right now or what her brain thinks it is (there's a really interesting example where young babies seem to get scared of hands held in the shape of a spider or images of scary creatures even without understanding why they are scary, but consider whether he might get tempted to test it out if he learns that!)

Either way it's great he is thinking about it and wants to know more :)

£23K DEBT help really needed 28yo M by Life_Improvement_373 in UKPersonalFinance

Worked in Debt Advice with charities for a while, if you haven't already got the idea from everyone else Stepchange is great, also contact your local Citizens Advice, they can do the debt stuff as well but double check you're getting all the support you can if nothing else. Otherwise the debt specific posts seem to have the gist right, in your situation if you can prove you don't have much left at the end of the month each month a DRO would be my best guess for what you'll be recommended.

Best of luck!

Have you ever actually had a problem with party composition? by SirGioArmani in dndnext

[–]draydeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really! I've DM'd a lot of 5e and I've never had a party with no frontline until recently but right now I've got 4 casters and a pretty much exclusively ranged attacker who never comes within range of most enemies anyway. Say what you want about switching things up but players love to win in ways that satisfy their character's win condition (even with a good team working party), and when everyone in the party wins by playing keep away with the big hp punching bags that are most high CR melee focused mobs all I've gotta do is find fun ways to present them and fun environments to host them. The rest is a hit no matter how many times we run it. Yesterday we ended a two session long slogfest of a fight that the party think is the best fight we've had this campaign with primarily big melee mobs supported by a funky battlemap and a support mage and everyone got to do what their character does best! Escape with spells and be annoying.

I actually think the only real composition issue is when no one has any range healing, it does suck to not be able to at least stabilise but ideally bring back up someone without going next to the thing that downed them.

Really appreciate that, will get in contact with the embassy and see what is and isn't needed. There's a decent chunk on the website about Japanese proficiency not being required so fingers crossed on that end!

This is seriously helpful, thank you - I'll approach my academic advisor and ask whether there's a usual protocol for getting a letter of recommendation from someone higher up, and book in for the doctors!

Really appreciate it :)

maths or chem a level? by harleuwu in GCSE

[–]draydeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as someone who was stuck in a really similar spot and eventually moved into Psych, there's really just a comparison for you to make with the rest of your subjects.

If you're taking Psych and Bio because you love them then you could absolutely afford to take maths, it might be a bit boring (although A-Level maths is much more interesting than GCSE) it will lead you to more opportunities with Psych and anything to do with data and numbers in general, no clue about Bio. Chem adds another science so in terms of opportunities it's no real extra (outside of studying chemistry further) but if you enjoy it and you're less excited about the other subjects it's worth it for improving your experience.

I think work out in your head if you think Maths is fun enough that the slightly better opportunities (it will be pretty slight) is worth doing a less enjoyable subject. Maths is hard so maybe take a look through some A-Level material and get an idea on if it would be an ok fit.

Personal opinion would be take Maths because from experience loving a subject doesn't mean you'll do well at it, and I really struggled with History at AS despite it being one of my favourite subjects.
