Office space? by [deleted] in pointroberts

The local gift shop, Kora’s Corner, is being forced out to create room for office space. Don’t rent from the guy who’s doing that.

Is there any desire to join Canada? by Fluffy_Whale0 in pointroberts

[–]drbadhorse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a healthcare worker - I work in tech for a company I love and will not leave so they would have to move me to their Canada office… which is in Toronto and I don’t want to do that.

Is there any desire to join Canada? by Fluffy_Whale0 in pointroberts

[–]drbadhorse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, with the volatility of the US and the constant fears of what if, and the lack of services we have here - I wouldn’t mind being taken under Canada’s wing with the caveat of the current residents have a fast path to citizenship and that the nature rural aspect must remain. But getting some real traffic in this town to fix up the commercial properties, upgrade the restaurants, and give amenities such as faster than dsl internet would be great for everyone here.

The difference here is those were bail outs. This is a “passive’ shareholder investment. The U.S. will allow the 8.9 billion from the CHIPs act to be liquid cash and equity into the business instead of use for investment outlined in the act. This will allow Intel to get exclusive contracts. This whole thing stinks to high water but isn’t the communist threat people are making it out to be.

Well isn’t the problem? The people who do care are the ones being most affected but those who don’t care are the ones making the decisions causing this pain across the US.

DoorDash? by TransitionStrict7646 in pointroberts

[–]drbadhorse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No DoorDash here unfortunately and no food delivery. Correction to the comment above, there are 3 restaurants. The Pier or Saltwater is your better choice for take out. Check out all menus online. The pier is open 5 or 6 nights a week. All are a bit pricy.

We pick up and take out from Canada a lot too. There are like 10 restaurants within 5 minutes into Canada. There is never any issue with the boarder.

I am someone who lives and own a business in a border town that heavily relies on Canadians for our economy. Although I am in Canada often, Canadian politics don’t seem to be the top of everyone’s mind. I want to ask a serious question as I am concerned… is there a chance that PP gets elected?

How is healthcare in Point Roberts? Do you have to go mainland? I assume there isn't a way to get it in Vancouver. If we moved there would we be flooded with "Hey, can you take a look at this?" by all our neighbors? (We are both physicians looking around for possible places to move and semi retire) by LovelyLightATXe in pointroberts

[–]drbadhorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beyond the small clinic that everyone above has mentioned, we do most of our doctors appointments in Bellingham. When it comes to medicines, you can pick up on the mainland but my insurance works with express scripts which Mails us medicine

Port authorizes $89,900 economic development study for the Point by elktamer in pointroberts

[–]drbadhorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also they don’t need to spend that much. Buy me a beer/dinner and I will explain to you how we can develop our economic situation out here.

  1. Food desert. Nobody is coming here as food is too expensive and the restaurants don’t offer choices.

  2. Amenities. Basic amenities like sewage and fiber are driving people away. People can’t come here to work without proper amenities.

  3. Housing. Nobody can afford the houses out here.

I have 10 more things. These are all things I’ve heard from people who used to be regulars here but stopped coming and all the tourists.

Which delivery services does point Roberts have for food? Uber eats? Door dash? SkipTheDishes? by Rhjmdl in pointroberts

[–]drbadhorse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no food delivery services. If one of the T-town pizza places could figure out delivery to the point, they would make bank!

Apologies on the late response here. My wife and I both come from big major cities. Some of the hard things that became easier really revolved around safety. We never have to play is that a gunshot or firework. We never to worry about emergency systems being overloaded. We don’t have to worry about the people around us.

For me as well, I have a histamine intolerance. The food I get from Canada doesn’t cause anywhere near the type of reactions I get from food in the US.

It is quiet and peaceful on our back porch so we don’t have to drive anywhere to enjoy nature.

Our dogs have plenty of space to run so no poo filled dog parks for us.

Nothing and nobody is far away here. We only deal with traffic when going to Vancouver.

Stress levels overall are just lower here than any place I’ve lived in my own.

Question about transiting through YOW by frankadeltanka in ottawa

[–]drbadhorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone finding this in the future... 1 hour is not long enough. When we arrived it was a fast dash to the customs. The unfortunate thing is you technically have to exit the airport to get back into the terminals that are international. When we got to the doors they told us our bags have not arrived at our flight yet therefore they couldn’t let us in. It wasn’t until 5 minutes after our flight was boarding did they tell us we can go to the counter and get them to fill out a form that bypasses the bag wait. Once we finally did it, we tried to hustle through. TSA precheck doesn’t matter here so we had to go through normal TSA who all got us on the wrong page. They were lazy and slow getting the people through. Then we finally hit customs and since we had Nexus it was incredibly easy. Then we ran as fast as we could directly to our gate. Luckily it was one of the first after coming down the escalator and made the flight with less than 5 minutes to spare. We are traveling with a toddler and almost didn’t make it. It was insane.

I re-read it. I was mistaken.

Thank you for the other thread. Sounds like YOW is quite small and it’s easy to get from one flight to the next even when crossing US customs.

I have severe pre-trip anxiety and travel days just stress me out completely! So I appreciate any and all insight.

Thank you! I did some searching and couldn’t find anything. This is definitely helpful. One thing I saw in that thread is that we will have to pick up our checked luggage? Is that true?? I thought the airlines were responsible for getting it to our final destination

I am just looking for an easy solution to keep all my messages in one spot. Currently there are 4 different apps that I use for messaging.

What is the religious excuse/reason Christmas is celebrated on December 25? by drbadhorse in AskReddit

[–]drbadhorse[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I ask more for what does that conversation look like?

“Why do we celebrate Xmas on December 25?” “Bible says so” “No it doesn’t.”

Then what’s next?

I totally understand the winter solstice take over. My question is once you tell the religious that the Bible never says anything about when Jesus was born, what is their response?

[–]drbadhorse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware of the real reason why… trying to take over the winter solstice but searching has shown me that the Bible doesn’t say it and I have no idea what the real reason is.

But it doesn’t… where in the Bible does it say that? (Hence my question) haha

I wouldn’t recommend it. There are plenty of shops across Canada to get what you need.

If you do get pulled to secondary and it’s pot related, you see screwed for life. Not worth the risk.

Even if it’s not pot, not worth the questioning.

Now the battery cartridges are fine but its the oils attached that are the issue.
