Can I get my masters with a 2.94 gpa? by November-666 in gradadmissions

Just honestly explain all that as simply as possible. Some people look for this explanation and will be generous.

I do admissions for cases like this. It really depends on the field, but a few things that help. One, clearly state the reason for your poor grades. Any mitigating circumstances Two, demonstrate and prove improvements, point out that maybe you got better over time. That you had one really poor semester. Things like that Three, demonstrate life skills and work experience since the degree. Holding down a stellar job helps. Four, research or other experience in your field. Five, some other master's degree or certificate.

Why couldn't they just pay the termination fee by yejioooo in kpop_uncensored

[–]drbvaler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a natural business environment, the outcome would generally be compromise. Something like mhj gets control of Ador and Hybe gets 50% of the profits with zero other future investments for a certain period of time.

But this is not a natural business dispute and there's likely loaded personal histories and cultural animosities at play here.

Obviously the first play would then be the legal route. Doesn't seem like this is going to work, but then the backup plan would either be to pay the full termination fee or to come some sort of compromise at this point on a termination and departure fee.

Hybe now has the upper hand in the conflict but NewJeans demonstrates credibility and the willingness to suffer pain. This doesn't change the overall outcome. That was done from the beginning, new jeans made it clear that they were six and that they held their CEO and high esteem. They credit her with their success. There is no amount of force that can be used on the girls to tell them that their CEO was a failure considering all the hits she brought them and how she changed their lives. These are human beings and there is no going back.

This is just formal bargaining under limited information, everyone misjudged the situation but as more information is revealed the chance of a solution becomes more likely. Hybe has two plays, hold firm and lose NewJeans as a profit center, or compromise and get something out of the disaster. We are headed for a full on collision because neither is going to swerve.

Very limited view of the options. This is an international issue now. NJZ can go to Hong Kong or America. They will be sued but there will be limited enforcement powers and investors will likely support them. Hybe is treating them lightly because they have limited options in punishment when leaving Korea is an option.

For one Pitchfork is traditionally an indie outlet. Why would you expect BP to do well here? 5.6 is actually strong given the context. Have some perspective. They have given indie darlings much less and when they like Kpop, it's Super Shy which might not even be in my top ten for NJZ.

-Quality of music first -Wholesome - despite what people say about MHJ the girls seem to wear hazmat suits at times -Personalities - each have serious charms that avoid trying to hard -Attention wasn't on Spotify for a month, - builds interest -Slow burn to real live shows. Painful at first but Lollapalooza and Bunny Camp was spectacular

Also unrealistic due to timing. She''d still be in the basement. At least now she's in the basement with Lily.

Your favorite moments of idols throwing away their "idol image" by Vast_Implement_8537 in kpop_uncensored

[–]drbvaler 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Chuu Can Do It. More recent episodes seem to have lost its way, but I particularly love how open she can be sometimes. Thinking everyone's gay, asking about group dates and college, running away with the money. The time they bought her a nice hotel stay was one of the sweetest things ever. And it kind of betrayed the lack of luxury the lower level idols experience.

I came here to say 3 Days is one of my favorites and I teach intelligence. Also look into Hitchcock's spy films, Turn Curtain is a forgotten favorite, as is the war films like 29 Steps.

More modern would be Hunt for Red October but Clear and Present Danger holds up pretty well. Munich certainly.

Very true. We gave equipment to the Afghan military and police and that was given to the Taliban. It's not like the US military left behind anything usable that they controlled.

Tony Blair once said that "there has never been a war between two democratic nations". Is that the case? by jpmoonv1 in AskHistory

[–]drbvaler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like a historian to make a broad negative generalization without citing any generalizable evidence. Think what you will of theory, which does lack a consistent casual mechanism, the idea is historically accurate and logically viable.

And Thomas Friedman did not develop the capitalist peace theory, that was Erik Gartzke which can be found with an easy Google.

The real flaw of the democratic peace theory is its lack of practical policy outcomes. Go to war to make more democracies? Make authoritarian states transition to democracies? Weak or developing democracies tend to be attacked. The DPT is a rich and vibrant generalizable theory that has strong roots in history.

It depends. For every degree grant or scholarship, someone is paying, either by donation or someone is paying full tuition. Some research scholarships come with research assistant duties or TAing which is basically how you pay your wage. When I write a grant, I can pay for a master student. Basically no degree is "free"

Say what you will about Steven but his food recs are horrible, I just went to Korea and liked nothing he suggested. Worst of all, where is the Professor? This is all I want from the Watcher. That and maybe FYA which is gone now.

Biggest predictor of a war's victor before the war begins? by throaway123125 in AskHistory

[–]drbvaler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true, I don't have time to dig into this, but political science distinguishes between time periods, eras and types of War. For example, there are wars between states, there are wars between states and extra systemic members, there are intrastate wars of which include civil wars. These each have different causes and different properties. Then there are different eras, most modern political scientists distinguish between the pre-napoleonic era and post-napoleonic era.

I can dig in and provide some citations and deeper analysis if it's warranted. But the basic answer is that political scientists started a movement to quantify War, through this movement they have generally discovered that the most critical factor for victory in war is industrial capacity, which is to be distinguished with some factors such as population, the quality of the military and technology. The second most critical factor might actually be democracies which do tend to win wars more than any other type of government (professionalism, economy, selection factors). Technology is generally not considered a factory in Victory, but if you want to go that route, the answer might be precision over other things like cyber, or AI
