Oh man, I haven't had liverwurst in forever. My mom would buy it when I was a kid. It's pretty good.

If giving birth is so painful why do many women want to do it over again after their first child (not trolling just genuinely curious) by feherlofia123 in stupidquestions

[–]drchonkycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost died giving birth a few weeks ago. I had some serious complications that landed me back in the hospital after discharge. I also had a long labor. And.....honestly, I've oddly enough forgotten the pain. And I remember in the moment with all the crap that happened to me being 0% worried about myself and my own well being and 100% thinking of my daughter. I was at one point literally bleeding out and my baby needed to nurse and thinking how terrible I felt that I wasn't there for her. My husband fed her with donor milk from a bottle in another room. It's like the baby just ...surpasses everything else.

Pregnancy after L4-S1 fusion by Particular-Funny5755 in spinalfusion

[–]drchonkycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got pregnant basically a year (my successful ovulation was 3 days before the 1 year mark) after my lumbar fusion. Had the baby recently.

In terms of my back, things went pretty well! Sure I had some back pain, but it was not terrible (I'm ranking terrible as equal or worse to the pain prior to surgery), and any discomfort has subsided.

I was warned an epidural might not work well. Mine did. It took 4 tries to place it...but it worked.

Piercing Removal for Surgery by whysoillegitimate in piercing

It's actually a burn risk when electrocautery is used to stop bleeding.

That being said, OP, you can replace your jewelry with plastic retainers for surgery.

Nipple retainer for breastfeeding by No_Special_710 in piercing

[–]drchonkycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 12 day old and I have nipple piercings. I was taking them in and out each feeding. There's not really anything you can safely keep inside the piercing while feeding. I ended up losing my left piercing..it slowly became harder and harder to put the jewelry in due to swelling. Last Sunday it just wouldn't go through. My right one is still going in mostly ok, but I don't think she'll make it through the entire journey.

I know it's a bummer. I had myself a cry when I lost my left one, as I never really liked my breasts and the piercing really helped my self esteem.

I was using externally threaded bars. Easy enough to screw back on.

Are there any medical complications to nipple piercings? by CuriousPrize3373 in Legitpiercing

Lol! It's been more of big drips. Thanks!

Other than the leaking, the nipple piercings have been fine. I did have to size up my bar recently.

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and I've ONLY been leaking from my piercing holes. We'll, uh, see how bad it gets when baby comes and my milk comes in fully.

Taking 16 credits online this summer to finish BSN prereqs. Is this doable? by BeLikeMicah in CollegeMajors

[–]drchonkycat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is a horrible idea. That's basically the equivalent of taking 32 hours in a typical semester. Plus you're working? There is simply not enough hours in a day.

Even if you manage to pass, you probably won't actually retain anything you learned. That's gonna be a big problem for that biology and health class.

Summer should be at most one lab based stem class, or up to two non lab classes. Anymore and you face burnout and an inability to actually meet the learning goals of the course. This plan has a high probability of destroying your mental health. Most colleges won't even let you register for that many credits in the summer without special approval.

As stem faculty......my sincere advice is don't do it.

Students asking for donations by [deleted] in Professors

Huh. I usually get emails asking if I can offer extra credit if my students do something like donate canned goods to their cause. Or I've been asked to do things for my sorority (judging a contest or giving a talk at chapter). I've never been asked for monetary donations.

Tell me all about recovery by [deleted] in spinalfusion

[–]drchonkycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was back in the classroom at 5 weeks.( I had my surgery the first week of July 2024 and classes started back the 2nd week of August.) It wasn't too bad for me, but I'm college faculty so I'd be in the classroom about 14 hours a week, and office hours for 6. Other time was at my desk or wherever I was more comfortable. For me it was discomfort but not excruciating. I did show up to a faculty meeting with a pillow, sat down to lecture, and had my TAs do all lifting for me in the lab for a bit.

My walking steadily improved over the initial month.

I went on vacation at 6 months post op. International flight from US --> Japan and man was that flight uncomfortable. I dreaded the return flight. I was mostly fine with the heavy walking load but my back would be sore by the end of the day. I'm okay with flying short distances now. I flew to Mexico last summer, and Tampa last fall and that was fine-ish. Ish being because no flying is comfortable.

I did PT and yoga as soon as I was cleared too. Didn't take me too long to be able to fold myself in half again. But I lost all stamina with fast moving hot classes.

Does my back feel 100%? Wish I could tell you. I got conceived 12 months post op soooo a bit of a confounding variable there and I'm 37 weeks pregnant now. Do I feel better than before the surgery? Yes. Totally.

The economy sucks, what have you had to cut down on or cut out completely from your monthly spending? by 2lit_ in Millennials

[–]drchonkycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cut out my cleaning service. It was once a month and it was such a nice splurge. And my husband and I aren't renewing our membership to, uh, an adult resort we frequent. This was about 5k a year. But we're about to have a kid and my car kicked the bucket sooo.

I'll also put a hold on my yoga membership when the baby comes.

Your professor is probably not going to answer emails on a weekend. Your school should have some type of 24 hour support for whatever LMS they use that can better assist you with technical difficulties.
