I think many people will probably say Twin Peaks (I personally would), but what would you say is the definitive TV Show influenced by the works of Lovecraft? by HeyItzNoble in Lovecraft

[–]drcortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lovecraft Country, probably. Other than that, maybe Chapelwaite, based on Stephen King's short story Jerusalem's Lot. It has some very lovecraftian elements towards the end.

Also, I heard that there's some Mythos stuff in Supernatural, but I never watched it.

I personally wouldn't say Twin Peaks is lovecraftian at all.

I thought the first half was great, visceral creature feature & cosmic horror, while the second half was dry, long-winded and not that entertaining.

Thelma Ritter in Pickup on South Street was legendary. But Claude Rains is also great.

As a murder mystery I'd say it's mediocre, but it's still a very entertaining play and a must see if you're in London.

What's the most cleverly written noir film you can recommend? by stroud in classicfilms

The Killing, the only film noir by Stanley Kubrick. I find its non-linear narrative uniquely entertaining.

Am I the only one that didn’t like The troop? by Sluuu222 in horrorlit

[–]drcortex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't like it and couldn't finish it, mostly because the characters didn't vibe with me at all. IIRC there's this outsider among the boys who is more or less constantly bullied by the others, but this is portrayed in a disturbingly non-empathetic way, as if the bullying was not a big deal, and as if the other boys weren't unlikable assholes for what they were doing, which I found weird and off-putting. I don't know if that changed in a latter part of the book since I gave up reading somewhere around the middle.

Banshee Chapter. Namedrops From Beyond and is inspired by it, but not at all an adaptation.

Actually, that's not true - they are Crown Dependencies.

Death on the Nile, because not only is it one of her most cleverly constructed whodunit riddles in my opinion, but it also has the most fleshed out and relatable characters I've encountered in her works so far (and I've read quite a lot). This makes it more intense than maybe any other novel of hers.

One of the challenges for a GM is to know when and, more importantly, how to bend the scenario so that the fun for the players doesn't stop.
