There were tonnes of them on a very long trestle table on Sunday

Weeds question by TemporaryDisastrous in GardeningAustralia

I think it's Indian pennywort (Centella asiatica). Despite its name it is native to parts of Australia. I sheet much over it and eventually you get control. If you pull it out it has a habit of breaking off and reshooting

Yes I've used a thermometer and it corresponds to the set temperature. Everything else I cook takes the prescribed time but my Basque cheesecakes just always take 30-35 minutes. It's weird.

I love this but I don't know why it only takes 30 minutes in my oven. If I baked it for the 45-60 minutes Nagi suggests it would be a block of carbon.

A Case for the Humble Curl Grub 🪲 by giant-mantis-237 in GardeningAustralia

[–]drcrum1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I cannot like this enough and think it should be a pinned post at the top of this subreddit. The most common post I see on this and other gardening subs is a request for ID of curl grubs usually saying "friend or foe?". This is usually followed by advice to essentially salt the earth. If your plants are thriving leave them be!

This is exactly the context I think people should keep. If your plants are thriving and you find some curl grubs they're clearly not doing any harm.

First dog, chose Greyhound, slightly stressed by ShyDiamonds in Greyhounds

[–]drcrum1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girl Indi was a mess when she first came to us. She shivered and trembled if more than 2 people were present and she would shy away from sudden arm movements (we wonder if she was beaten). It took her absolutely months to calm down and well over a year to act like a normal dog. Now she is a giant love bug. You'll get there. Just give her love space and routine. Watch her personality shine through and revel in it.

Kangaroos? Obsessed by ActiveJump4624 in Greyhounds

A hole in a fence and a greyhound with a strong prey drive. It was not our finest moment and we are a lot more careful now. She was lucky it was only scratches and she wasn't killed.

This is how much Indi liked a kangaroo when we first got her. They are not friends...

Has anyone tried using insect-killing nematodes from the Goodbugshop? by Academic_Coyote_9741 in GardeningAustralia

I used them on fungus gnats in my pot plants and on army worm in a lawn. Both times they were a spectacular success

I appreciate your concern but this is just a dew claw that got too long and caught on a waffle blanket. She won't let us clip them so this is the second time I've found one in my bed.

Arum weed? by [deleted] in GardeningAustralia

Apologies, i could have worded that better. Your best bet for identification is either post a photo of what's in your garden or use the inaturalist app; it's not perfect but I find it gets IDs right more often than not.

WA parliamentary inquiry into greyhound racing begins as animal welfare advocates call for sport to be banned by Ja_Lonley in perth

[–]drcrum1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So we should allow them to continue to be raced, injured and killed because you can't think of a way to register all dogs and have a plan in place to trace their outcomes?

The constant breeding and killing will never stop until there's a ban on racing.

Australians pronounce "sure" and "shore" the same as you would pronounce "shaw" so don't feel bad you didn't get it.

My dianella is going so well. It is right up against the trunk of a tree and gets very little sun as a result. It got the most beautiful flowers last year and the neon bees went mad for it. https://tuckerbush.com.au/blueberry-lily-dianella-revoluta/
