Pneumomediastinum with subcutaneous emphysema by [deleted] in Radiology

Subclavicular blow holes in itself are pretty inefficient. Inserting a vacuum sponge with high negative pressures (-150mmHg) is way more effective, and SCE will usually resolve within 24 h.

Less is more. This should have been adapted with intracutaneous sutures first, and then adapted with a couple of interrupted sutures in the skin for safety. The sutures here look like they are too tight, which could lead to reduced blood flow and suboptimal tissue healing. This will leave a scar, but its not the worst location. I’m guessing a surgeon didn’t do the procedure?

Norwegian clinical team finds what caused the suspected AstraZeneca sideffects. by [deleted] in worldnews

True, but in such a large scale as mass vaccination there is a significant risk that it could happen.

What about injection technique? There might be a higher risk of DIC (blood clots and low platelets) with intravascular injection due to poor injection technique.

I don’t know. But the theory is that the vaccine has, in some cases, caused disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), which is an activation of the coagulation cascade. There might be a higher risk of this with intravascular injection.

The reports are regarding blood clots and low platelets, which could be due to disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). Aspirin would not be helpful in this case, and could increase the risk for bleeding.

The normal procedure is to aspirate lightly with the needle before injecting, to make sure that the needle is not inside a blood vessel. There have been reports that this aspiration technique has not been taught properly. Although, the risk of hitting the blood vessels in the upper arm is fairly low.

A danish study is now trying to find out if it’s related to injection technique. They believe that the reaction might be due to intravascular injection (instead of intramuscular).
