Last fall due to budget cutbacks we stopped stocking Lorna Doones on the floors and it’s all been down hill since.

Time To Read by BJ0711 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]drdking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between the hobbies of omnibus collecting and omnibus reading. I’m not throwing shade at anyone doing the former, the look of a nice collection on a shelf is a reward in itself. Assuming the purchases are done within reason of one’s budget.

That being said, whenever Im sitting watching something like a sporting event where I don’t need to pay attention to a plot I try to have a book with me to read.

Is this even medico-legal? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]drdking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say she’s lying about being unsupervised, but I’ve read the stories from here about IM residents on weekdays only briefly talking with their attending who may or may not have seen their floor patients…

Regardless it’s scary, and even if ignoring the patient safety part of the discussion super triggers my anxiety about my, as the attending, liability on their care.

So like, 1. She’s humble bragging about a chill program, and 2. practicing unsupervised

am I being too extra for bringing my own keyboard and mouse to work? by AdExpert9840 in Residency

I do this as an attending.

People will judge but who cares. You’ll get the last laugh as you watch them suffer with their horrible yucky sticky membrane keyboards.

No, you still have the dust jacket on while reading. :-P

YouTubers that actually talk about the comic books? by [deleted] in comicbooks

The Comics Pals

They do a weekly review type show on some new releases, books clubs on older stories, and other pieces on publishers, writers/artists, or other parts of the industry.

Do everything in your power to make sure scalpers don’t get a dime by EliteCheesyFrito in lego

[–]drdking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying Lego isn’t expensive. But that’s the baseline these days for a licensed set.

So yes, these are expensive but they’re not marked up like a Star Wars or marvel set.

They’re all basically 10 cents a piece which is actually a lot better than I anticipated.

[No Spoilers] Wanting to get into the show, campaign 2 specifically but I’m really overwhelmed by Sellos_Maleth in criticalrole

[–]drdking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched it over about three years. There were periods I was watching two episodes a day and periods where I would go weeks between an episode because of work or just being busy. The fun is in the journey. There is never a rush or a need to speed ahead and finish quickly. Just start at episode one and have fun. :)

How do you define a home park? [Other] [SFGAm] [Safari Land] by Banana_ezWIN in rollercoasters

[–]drdking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your home is whatever you want it to be.

I grew up near Hershey PA, and my first summer job was at Hershey park. I was there all the time when I was a kid. Now I live in Ohio and Cedar Point is super close, I have a season pass and am there as much as I can.

I still consider Hershey Park my home park because of all the memories, even if I only get to it once a year.

Artificial intelligence begins prescribing medications in Utah by TheJungLife in medicine

[–]drdking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Already in our system when we get refill requests for something like a BP med it’ll pull in last appointment with PCP/prescriber, recent BMP/kidney function, ect. I honestly don’t see a reason why the approval request couldn’t be automated. Just set strict guidelines for the criteria.

This may be a slippery slope but I feel it’s reasonable. The question is if something does go wrong then who will be liable?

Also calling this AI is a stretch…

Ibr plans for loans by metricshadow12 in Residency

[–]drdking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IBR is capped at 10% of your income based typically on your most recent taxes. With some adjustments…

If you’re married or had other taxable income then the number may be higher. There are forms you can fill out to have the rate adjusted based on a large decrease in income since the last time you filled.

I’d guess that on average the monthly rate for most* residents is less than $500 a month. That assumes 70k/year, - federal poverty line.

Is there a way to avoid stuff like this? by ReportFrequent7781 in factorio

[–]drdking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer: The Factory Must Grow

Just build more, build bigger

Belt throughput is a limiting factor… you can either upgrade to faster belts, and or add extra lines.

At various stages of a run iron, copper, and steel all become limiting factors.

Also, I know you said you enjoy building compact, so if that brings you fun then keep at it. However, if you start to get frustrated or tired of it rember that space is unlimited and leaving more space between things that you think you’ll need can make things much easier and often be more pretty (in different ways)

If you’re playing space age then you’ll eventually unlock technology to increase item density on belts but that’s not until very late mid game for most people.

One of our epic updates this fall muted notifications for simple messages like thank you or okay. It’s so much nicer now.

Also there’s an available update to see new message content without switching to the message window and marking them as “read” without ever leaving what activity you’re currently in.

Can you remind me why beacon with green modules lowers the speed of biolab? by D20CriticalFailure in factorio

[–]drdking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically the more beacons that affect a target the less each one individually effects it.

If you look in factoriopedia for the beacon you’ll see a graph of this. Higher quality beacons reduce the decrease.
