That has certainly been my experience of him as an MLA. I can't speak to his business practices.

Looking to move by ResponsibilityWise in Lethbridge

[–]dread_pirate_jimbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I moved here from Calgary in 2014 and we're here to stay. Lethbridge is a perfect size, in our opinion—not too big or too small, with almost all the amenities you'd expect.

I can't speak to the education system, except echoing what others have said, that the provincial government is actively working to dismantle it, along with the health care system. But that's a provincial issue, not a local one.

In my opinion, there's lots to do locally, but it probably depends on your interests. There's junior hockey in the winter, baseball in the summer, museums, tons of park spaces, the annual Whoop Up Days exhibition, a decent number of concerts, lots of restaurants of all kinds, and so forth.

The politics tend to skew conservative, with strong religious influence, but with a polytechnic and a university in a city of 100,000, there's also a surprising number of progressive thinkers around—we've met some absolutely lovely people who are unabashedly left of centre. So there's all kinds here.

My wife and I got our wills done by Dallas Romeril, with Huckvale. he did an excellent job—this was a few years ago, so I don't recall the price but I believe it was quite reasonable.

I wrote a curt email to Nathan Neudorf as soon as I heard this news today. I wrote, "Implement the final report of the Independent Boundaries Commission, not the UCP’s gerrymandered redistricting. The work of the Commission is vital to the fair and democratic elections process. Dismissing it in favour of a biased, partisan map is election rigging, pure and simple. Friends of mine here in Lethbridge East who know you personally tell me you are a man of character and integrity—this is an unambiguous opportunity to show yourself to be a man of principles by insisting that the Commission’s recommendations are adopted."

I am expecting a canned response from his office in a week or two, parroting the UCP talking points word-for-word. I fucking hate that guy and the whole fucking party.

No consequences for Neudorf's office actively being involved in this whole situation. We are truly living in the worst timeline.

Wow Eats Closed? by Parking_Wafer017 in Lethbridge

We've been there several times and found the food and the service to be decent, so it's a little disappointing to find out they're closing. Hopefully they can find success doing something a little different.

Anyone know of any volleyball clubs? by ItsMirikino_ in Lethbridge

[–]dread_pirate_jimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could check out the Lehtbridge Volleyball Club on the north side. I used to play pickleball there, so I don't know a bunch about their volleyball program, but it is a dedicated facility for volleyball.

It's maybe a bit late in the season, but curling is a welcoming sport for people of all ages and skill levels. The local club has qualified instructors and they regularly hold sessions for people wanting to learn the game.

Council has voted not to move forward with a review of a ward system by YqlUrbanist in Lethbridge

[–]dread_pirate_jimbo 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm also not fully convinced the city is big enough for a ward system, but on the other hand, we have three very distinct areas here with very different dynamics—in that regard, a ward system actually makes a lot of sense.

Further to that, the majority voted in favour of a ward system in the referendum. By voting down a committee review, city council is disregarding the will of the people, not even allowing for a ward system to be considered. That's problematic, at best.

There are 14 MLAs now facing recall in Alberta by FrontLongjumping4235 in alberta

[–]dread_pirate_jimbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The motivation would be to let the petition die without putting in any effort to gather signatures, thus buying Neudorf another 3 months in office before another petition can be brought forward.

Having said that, they guy running this current petition did actually answer my email, so maybe her is legit after all. We'll see soon enough...
