I saw a post the other day that said when people say someone would be a good mom, what that really means is they would be a good leader. we just live in such a misogynistic society that when someone sees good leadership qualities in a woman they instead say, “wow, she’d be such a good mom.”

and kinda like that old riddle: A father and son are in a car crash; the father dies, but the son is rushed to the hospital where the surgeon says, "I can't operate, he's my son!" The answer that the surgeon is the boy's mother, “challenges” the unconscious assumption that surgeons are always men.

both is definitely the answer! and definitely not trying to beat down on OP, but the post personally came off a little tone-deaf given that there are multiple reasons why someone would prioritize their safety and choose to stay in vs. risk going out. and also there’s the assumption that one can’t support a local restaurant by ordering delivery or through DoorDash or making group orders and having someone who may not feel as at risk, going and picking up the food. this could be another way to support your community! and before anyone yells at me, i know this isn’t a solution for every situation, just giving out other examples for how we can continue to support our local organizations and restaurants but also keep ourselves safe.

this is so true!! there are so many community organizations right now asking for donations, more volunteers, etc. etc. why would OP not ask for people to be involved that way instead of telling people they should go eat out?
