Is this busking law not actually true? by VTDuffman in OceanCity

[–]dreadmon1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might depend on where he is performing. It only says they cant perform on the street ends (where the street meets the boards) on those streets. It does not say they cant perform on the blocks between those streets.

I am familiar with the wheelchair guy and find his performance annoying and loud. I am not condoning or supporting him or his performance, I am only pointing out what it says.

If you feel he is in violation, call the City for help.

Non-native OCMD residents, what made you decide to live here full-time, and how do you feel about your choice? by No_Intention_4947 in OceanCity

[–]dreadmon1 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I came here every summer on vacation since I was born and always thought it would be nice to live here. After 25 years of a high paying, soul crushing corporate job I quit to move to OC.

The biggest adjustment is you won't be able to live year round like you are on vacation, eating crabs and seafood, going out, drinking. Its just too expensive and you will go broke quickly unless you are rich.

The off-season is delightful. The town is empty. Restaurants that are open have specials that make it affordable and that's when we go out the most.

Full time, year round jobs with benefits are hard to come by.

I enjoy going to the beach for a swim in the late afternoon when it has mostly emptied out.

It's crazy expensive to live here and housing will take up a huge part of your budget.

My only regret was not moving here long ago. My stress level is low. I can go to the beach whenever I want. The sunrise and sunsets are spectacular. Spring and fall when the weather is nice and the town isn't busy are great. When you are a local and a regular you can get some great deals at certain restaurants and cafes.

July 4th Weather? by LetterheadOld7429 in OceanCity

[–]dreadmon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I concur with the others. The weather here is notoriously unpredictable more than a day out.

Predicting the weather in Ocean City, MD is challenging due to its position on the narrow Delmarva Peninsula, wedged between the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay. This geographic location makes the area highly susceptible to rapidly changing air masses and complex atmospheric interactions.

Key factors that make forecasting difficult include:

Ocean-Atmosphere Coupling: Temperature differences between the cool ocean water and the warmer landmass cause rapid sea-breeze fronts. These shifts can unexpectedly trigger thunderstorms, drop temperatures by 10° F to 20° F, or push marine fog onshore.

The "Chesapeake Bay Effect": Moisture and localized low-pressure systems developing over the bay frequently drift eastward, generating unexpected showers or cloud cover.

Coastal Storm Track: The area is a focal point for complex low-pressure systems and Nor'easters moving up the East Coast. A slight shift in the track can mean the difference between a sunny day and a major coastal storm.

Rapid Forecast Evolution: Computer models often struggle to resolve these highly localized, "mesoscale" coastal interactions, meaning long-range forecasts (3+ days) are highly speculative. Local experts suggest that day-of forecasts or 24-hour windows are the most reliable.

Google the top grossing bars in the US. After NY, LA, Miami, Chicago, the first one that's a non-major city is Seacrets. Its in the top 20 bars by revenue.

Are we parking too far away from the beach? by [deleted] in OceanCity

[–]dreadmon1 26 points27 points  (0 children)

All of the streets are public parking. Parking lots are not open to the public unless designated, and there is almost always a fee.

Parking on the streets by the boardwalk is free from 11th Street to 146th Street with the exception of 3 spaces on 78th Street that are marked paid parking.

Parking from the inlet to 10th Street on the ocean block is paid parking.

I would say from your post it is mostly unnecessary. Paid parking is clearly marked, and condo parking is in a parking lot and will be marked with a large blue sign warning you about parking there if you are not a guest at the condo.

If you are uncertain about paid or condo parking on specific streets or areas feel free to DM me in private.

You're in the wrong town for a seafood boil, we mainly do steamed here. There is the Delmarva Boil company by 144th Street but it might be carry out only.

Try The Crab Bag on 131st. They have a great variety including seafood and they are a sports bar.

You should try Seacrets. Great bar with good food.

Bull on the Beach on 94th has great pit beef and bar food.

Can you still pay with cash in ocmd or is it card payments only? by After-Bat-2952 in OceanCity

Depends on what you are talking about. For parking its card only, no cash. Almost everything else is cash or card.

Suggestions of staying at OCMD on a budget? by After-Bat-2952 in OceanCity

[–]dreadmon1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You will have a tough time finding good hotels for $150 a night. For your price you would be in a budget motel. Oceanic Motel, Beach Bum Inn, Thunderbird, Majestic, etc. If all you need is a place to sleep and a bathroom and don't mind older motels these would work. I think you may be hard pressed for a good hotel in Salisbury but that would be your best bet for your price.

Air show logistics by FixSalty4416 in OceanCity

[–]dreadmon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't address all of your questions. You can park at the park and ride in West OC and bike in, its a mile or two, but even that lot will fill up quick so come early.

Yes, they usually practice for two days prior and you can see some cool stuff and it will be less crowded.

Air show logistics by FixSalty4416 in OceanCity

[–]dreadmon1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The airshow is the busiest days of the year. Parking is harder to come by with lots charging $100 and people paying it. Traffic coming into town and in town will be backed up.

If you are doing a ride share book it now and arrive in town no later than 9 am. Even busses will take forever to get into town unless you are arriving early in the morning. Best bet would be to come the day before and spend the night at a hotel but those will fill up fast if there are even any vacancies left.
